There are two rumors about Young Master Ban circulating in the capital.
The first says he protects his country and kills countless demon beasts. He's the foremost of the capital's Eight Saints, the guardian deity of the Xun Dynasty, and the young savior secretly adored by countless girls.
The second says he's a vicious delinquent who kills without mercy. Everyone in the capital has been beaten up by him at least once. He's a violent, cold-blooded lunatic.
Bai Que travels all the way from Wushan to the capital to meet him. Looking at the boy before her, whose face is red as blood, and remembering how he once chased her down to settle a score, she thinks both rumors are wrong, and wildly so.
Ban Huangyu is clearly even more vicious than the second rumor claims, and even better than the first.

The first time Bai Que meets Ban Huangyu, he's being chased by a group of people who want to settle old scores. Though he defeats a hundred opponents on his own, a demon beast ambushes him and sends him tumbling into Mirror Lake.
Desperate to save him, Bai Que pulls Ban Huangyu from the water and finds he's barely breathing. She immediately gives him several breaths, mouth to mouth.
The first thing Ban Huangyu does when he wakes is swing his sword at this shameless woman. His eyes say three words: You're dead.
Bai Que: ?
Bai Que: Do you even have any sense? I was saving you.
After Ban Huangyu hunts her for several days, Bai Que becomes the first extraordinary woman to survive seven days of his pursuit. Watching Ban Huangyu fail to ambush her yet again and angrily slash at her with his sword, Bai Que decides that this can't go on forever. She has to take responsibility.
She nimbly dodges his attack, then wraps an arm around him in exasperation and kisses his cheek, making him a promise:
"All right, I'll take responsibility. When should we get married?"
Ban Huangyu: .
Ban Huangyu, so furious that even his hair is trembling: "If you survive tonight, I'll take your surname!"
Bai Que scratches her head sheepishly. "I've never heard of a tradition where the husband takes his wife's surname. Are you that happy? Don't get too carried away."
That night, the two of them fight so fiercely that the earth shakes and the Demon Locking Pagoda is left in ruins.
In the morning, Bai Que, completely unharmed, cautiously edges up to Ban Huangyu and says:
"Can I take it back? I can't afford to pay for all the things you broke. Maybe we shouldn't get married."
*
Years later, Ban Huangyu chases after Bai Que, demanding she take responsibility. "Don't you have to pay for the things you broke at my estate?! How dare you go back on your word? I'll cut you down!"
Bai Que looks back at him helplessly. "...When you said I had to take responsibility, did you mean you wanted me to die?"
Ban Huangyu finally catches her. His face red as blood, he tilts his head up and lies: "When did I ever say that? I don't remember."
