The Nether God’s Maiden

[Blurb]

Shu Qi is a model good girl. She's been obedient all her life and has never gone against the wishes of any elder.

That is, until it was time to submit her college applications. She defied her family's objections and chose mortuary science, severing ties with them for good.

Shu Qi didn't care. One day, she pushed open her dorm room door and stopped her roommate, whose body was already leaning mostly out the window.

Her ink-dark eyes held little emotion. In a voice as still as a pool of stagnant water, she asked, "Do you really want to die?"

"You wouldn't look good if you died like this."

Bound by the taboos of Heaven's laws, the various gods choose human vessels to act in the mortal world. Divine servants can wield some of their gods' powers and maintain stability in the human realm.

After an accident in the Underworld, most of the vicious and wicked Hengsu escaped and scattered across the human world to wreak havoc. The current God of the Underworld was so willful that he gave most of his power to a dying girl, then returned to his palace to slack off.

Later, when people were struggling desperately, they would hear a young girl's leisurely question in their moment of despair:

"Hello. Are you ready to face judgment?"

Helpless pity is even more despairing than helplessness itself,

and my existence is here to make that despair vanish completely

*A supernatural story whose style is hard to pin down?

*A little self-indulgent project, part of the same shared universe series as The Guide to the Yellow Springs
