Chang Le transmigrates to ancient times. After both her parents die, she lives in a thatched hut and struggles through childhood until she is fourteen. One day, people from the capital arrive. Their ornate carriage stops in front of the crumbling mud wall of her home, and they tell her that she is actually the biological daughter of a Grand Secretary. Years ago, the two families happened to give birth in a ruined temple, and their daughters were accidentally switched.
Chang Le: Are you guys doing an ancient version of The Switched-at-Birth Heiresses?
...Well, after she gets over the shock, she still packs her things and goes with them.
The capital is prosperous, nothing like the place where she grew up. Her adoptive father is stern and old-fashioned, often gazing at her with a complicated look. Her adoptive mother cries easily, and whenever she sees Chang Le, she can't help wiping away her tears. Her adoptive older brother is naturally cold and only nods when he sees her. Oh, and there's the fake heiress, now her adoptive younger sister, who turns around and walks away whenever she sees Chang Le and doesn't seem to like her much.
When her adoptive younger sister turns and walks away yet again, Chang Le's nominal older brother says coolly, "Pingshu is the sister I've watched grow up. You can't replace her. All I can give you is a life of comfort and luxury. From now on, let's each live our own lives in peace."
Chang Le thinks about it and understands what he means. She waves it off, unconcerned. "Compared to being alive, feelings can't put food on the table. I've made a huge score, haven't I?"

Qi Zhan is forced by his father to attend extra lessons with the Grand Secretary. It's supposed to be a class of three, but somehow he's the only one who gets beaten.
Later, a girl joins them who is even worse than him and doesn't know a single character. They hit it off immediately, two of a kind, and become fast friends. Soon they're both getting beaten.
After learning their lesson the hard way, the two decide to work hard and apply themselves. Their sudden dedication leaves everyone astonished, and Qi Zhan's father shows up at their door with gifts, weeping tears of joy.
Later, with the war still raging, Qi Zhan is about to head to the battlefield. Before he leaves, he puts a red-bean silver hairpin in her hair. Her adoptive older brother sees this and darkens his expression. Her adoptive father expertly pulls out his ruler and chases after him, while her adoptive younger sister glares at her and clutches her sleeve.
The young man dodges the ruler and turns to her, his brows relaxed, his smile bright. Confidence shines in his eyes, making him radiant, like a blazing sun too dazzling to look at directly.
"Chang Le, you absolutely have to wait for me to come back!"
