The Emperor's Legacy: The Son Inherits After the Father Dies

Father died, my older brother inherited his empire, and I inherited his great general.

The great general was invincible, undefeated in battle, and the man of my dreams. But Father and my brother were deeply wary of him: they relied on him, yet suspected him too. It broke my heart to see.

After my brother ascended the throne, he humiliated the great general by granting him to me as a husband.

The great general was furious. I pretended to be furious along with him, while secretly rejoicing inside.

Hehe :)

My brother worried I was plotting to seize the empire and overthrow him.

To be honest, I hadn't been planning anything. He was always picking on me, and I put up with it. But then he picked on the man of my dreams. Not only did he send the great general far away to guard the bitterly cold frontier, he also repeatedly cut off and obstructed the delivery of provisions and supplies.

You can bully me, but you can't bully my man.

So I rebelled.

By the time the great general led an army of two hundred thousand back to the capital to rescue the emperor, I had already stabbed my royal brother to death in the Golden Hall.

The sky was clear that day, without a cloud in sight.

I sat on the dragon throne, leaning on my knife as I waited for the great general to come kill me.

The great general was upright and loyal. Despite all the injustices he had suffered, he had never strayed from his principles. He would set things right, crush me, the treacherous usurper, and earn an everlasting reputation for integrity, celebrated for all time.

From the moment I resolved to rebel, I knew there could never be anything between us again.

Not hehe :(

Before the Golden Hall, the great general strode up the long steps, his armor drenched in blood, and came toward me with his sword raised.

The entire court knelt on the ground, crying that I was cruel and violent, that I had killed my father and brother, and begging the great general to slay the treacherous king and restore the young sovereign.

The great general stopped before the dragon throne and looked at me deeply. Then he spun around, placed himself in front of me, and shouted:

"Protect the emperor!"

Me: "???"

The entire court: "!!!"

Hehe again. Hehe.
