After a Long Separation, Love Remains

On the eve of her wedding, Lin Jingmeng kept dreaming about her first love...

Though he wasn't really her first love. Lin Jingmeng had liked the campus heartthrob, Duan Chongbai, back then. She would stick notes in his books and accompany him to class, until the aloof, chaste Duan Chongbai started to fall for her.

But the moment she realized he liked her, she suddenly lost interest. Just a few days later, she transferred schools.

Only later did Lin Jingmeng realize this was a sign of avoidant attachment.

Once she understood what was wrong with her, she never pursued anyone again.

Ten years passed in a flash. She should have long since forgotten him, but for some reason, he suddenly began appearing in her dreams over and over.

After waking with a start yet again, Lin Jingmeng was unsettled. She wondered if Duan Chongbai had suddenly died in some accident long ago, and was now haunting her because he knew she was getting married.

You really shouldn't do things that weigh on your conscience.

It had been too long, and she couldn't find any news about Duan Chongbai. So she donated for an eternal lamp at a temple and arranged an elaborate ceremony to help him pass on, hoping he would let go of his attachments and find peace in the afterlife.

Awkwardly, Duan Chongbai wasn't dead.

Not only was he alive and well, he had become very, very rich.

And, as it turned out, he had never been able to let go of his obsession.
