Her Majesty the Empress Is Virtuous and Kind

The new emperor ascends the throne, and the position of empress remains vacant.

After three years of national mourning, the great clans set their sights on the empty throne.

Meng Shiyu lost her mother at a young age and was neglected by her father's family. Although she was born into a great clan and had plenty of ambition, no one was there to make plans for her. All Meng Shiyu could do was sigh and watch her hopes slip away.

Then an imperial decree arrived, and Meng Shiyu could hardly believe that such an enormous stroke of luck had landed right in her lap.

Appointed empress out of nowhere, Meng Shiyu felt uneasy.

On the day of her coronation, Meng Shiyu earnestly assured Zongzheng Jin, "Your concubine will fulfill her duties as empress, honoring the ancestral temple without and instructing the imperial consorts within, in gratitude for Your Majesty's trust and favor."

Zongzheng Jin was very pleased, praising her: "The empress is virtuous and worthy."

From then on, to secure her position as empress, Meng Shiyu hung the words "virtuous and worthy" in her bedchamber and kept them in mind every day, never daring to forget.

But what is with that resentful, dissatisfied look on his face?
