Commoner Consort

[Household Intrigue] [Palace Intrigue]

Everyone said Ning Yue was lucky. Her life had been smooth sailing: she was the legitimate eldest daughter, adored by her parents, and when she came of age to marry, Prince Rong took a liking to her and made her a secondary consort, showering her with favor.

But heaven was jealous of her beauty. In a sudden mishap, Ning Yue died in childbirth on the eve of Prince Rong's accession to the throne.

After her death, Ning Yue watched as the princess consort, her cousin, who had cared for her devotedly while she was alive and had been so worried about her difficult labor right up until the moment she closed her eyes that she was willing to sacrifice the child to save her, held the baby Ning Yue had paid for with her life and rejoiced.

She watched her cousin pretend to grieve in front of the new emperor, who had hurried back upon hearing of her death.

She watched her son become her cousin's son, never knowing who his birth mother was.

Ning Yue smiled bitterly. What luck? Her whole life had been a joke.

When she opened her eyes again, the lucky young lady of the Ning family had returned to the moment Prince Rong first took notice of her.
