Collecting Corpses and Raising Cats in a Strange Tales World

Su Yang, who came from a family that had worked in funeral services for generations, transmigrated into the body of a poor scholar and received a Graveyard System. He earned silver by burying people.

To save up for the civil service exams, Su Yang became a gravedigger and was accompanied by a coal-digging kitten.

Studying while getting paid and petting cats too. This is a perfectly fine exam-story setup...

Except it wasn't.

An old man flew across the sky on a sword.

Neighbors in the cemetery could stand up and go for a stroll.

The coal-digging cat could sweep and cook, and loved collecting herbs and books.

Only then did Su Yang realize that he seemed to have transmigrated into a world overrun by the supernatural.

Su Yang was thrilled!

He wasn't afraid of the supernatural. He could bury all of them and exchange them for money.

One day, Su Yang came home covered in blood.

The coal-digging cat swiped him with a paw, and his injuries healed.

Su Yang: So I really did transmigrate into Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. I knew you weren't an ordinary cat.

Coal-Digger: Meow?

Su Yang pointed at a portrait of a beauty: Turn! Into! Her!

Coal-Digger: I was blocking the wind and sand.

But that's all right. A cat will spoil its dummy.

Coal-digging cat: A nickname for Siamese cats. This is a fictional world with no Kingdom of Siam, so they're called coal-digging cats.

The shou doesn't turn human until very late, and the romance begins even later. Overall, this is a non-explicit story with two male leads who aren't in a relationship but are each other's most important person (or cat).

The supernatural beings aren't limited to Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. They also include, but aren't limited to, tales from Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang, In Search of the Supernatural, and Things My Master Never Told Me, along with other ancient Chinese horror stories.
