The Shocking Note

[Expected to open in July or August]

1. In Xu Wen's memory, the most run-down place he'd ever seen was probably Jiangcheng.

But at the end of that road lined with jacaranda trees, in a shabby rental apartment, lay everything he had.

In Xu Wen's eyes, the person he hated most was Chi Jingque, the top student who had ranked first for years.

The more unruffled and single-minded Chi Jingque was, the more Xu Wen wanted to provoke him.

2. Chi Jingque first met Xu Wen in Jiangcheng.

He thought Xu Wen was a top-tier hoodlum, a second-rate rich kid, and a walking collection of every rebellious teenage habit imaginable.

The two were famous in Jiangcheng for not getting along.

A year later, after trying everything he could, Xu Wen got only one answer from Chi Jingque: "Xu Wen, I don't date in high school."

Another year later, sitting alone in the rental apartment they had shared, Xu Wen stared at Chi Jingque's now-deactivated account and realized he had never been able to forget him.

3. That year, Xu Wen became a sensation. His hair dyed a vivid red and cut into a wolf tail, he was still wild and carefree, telling the whole world that his moonlight loved punk fashion.

At the end of every concert, he would take out his violin and play the same original piece, "Startling Strings," with a gentle smile.

Behind his phone case, Chi Jingque kept every one of Xu Wen's contact details. He knew them by heart and refused to throw away the paper, even as it yellowed and the writing faded.

He went to every one of Xu Wen's concerts, gazing up at his dazzling brilliance amid the sea of people, yet never once agreeing to meet him.

A seemingly aloof, sharp-tongued, gentle top student and guiding lover

A seemingly spoiled rich kid, a free-spirited violinist chasing his dreams

(I can't think of the right words, but you get the idea, cough cough.)
