After the Foolish Young Master Learns He's Cannon Fodder

An Yan is a spoiled rose raised in a greenhouse. He is frail, with a congenital heart condition. He is pampered and willful, and even though he is the impostor, he bullies Luo Zhan, the real young master who was brought back, every day. He has a terrible temper and thinks nothing of ordering Luo Zhan to bathe and dress him and act as his personal servant. He is not particularly clever, either. When he learns that he is the villainous supporting character in a novel about a man loved by everyone, and that Luo Zhan, whom he hates most, is the one and only protagonist, all An Yan can do is pound the bed in anger and throw a tantrum. The thought of getting jealous of Luo Zhan and doing terrible things, then losing everything he has now, his parents’ affection, his prestigious family background, and the adoration of everyone at his elite school, terrifies him. In the end, he will die miserably in the street with his clothes in tatters, and even his corpse will be torn apart by wild dogs. An Yan gives in. And he gives in fast. His first move is to find Luo Zhan, whom he had forced to sleep in the storage room. He climbs into his bed pitifully, wraps his slender, pale arms around him, and says, “Big Brother, Big Brother, are you cold? I’ll warm your bed.” As a result, he becomes Luo Zhan’s hand warmer every night, the kind who ends up with red marks all over his neck from being bitten. His second move is to find Luo Zhan’s future husband and use every last bit of his strength to promise that he will never again be the man’s devoted admirer, nor bother or cling to him. Instead, Luo Zhan’s future husband pins him against a wall. His third move is to stop Luo Zhan, the beloved protagonist, from winning over his loyal admirers. An Yan dutifully follows Luo Zhan to all sorts of events, protecting him from the ill intentions of the wolves circling around him. Instead, Luo Zhan, inexplicably driven wild, corners him in the bathroom and tears his maid outfit to shreds. An Yan cries. As a frail, foolish fake young master, he has no idea how to defy fate and change his destiny. Too scared to try changing the plot again, he can only become a docile, harmless little kitten and let Luo Zhan bully and toy with him. When Luo Zhan tells him to go east, he does not dare go west. When Luo Zhan tells him to take his medicine, he does not dare ask for a shot. When Luo Zhan tells him to be his wife, he does not dare... Wait?? Luo Zhan is a wild weed who grew up in a small mountain village. He is calm, and even after his parents bring him home, he does not demand their affection. He is resilient, and even when the impostor An Yan bullies him, he chooses to endure it. He is clever, and rather than compete with An Yan over every little thing, he quietly takes control of the company. He is much smarter than An Yan, the boy his parents took in, so he awakens to the plot much earlier, too. As the destined protagonist, all Luo Zhan has to do is follow the plot, and he can have everything he wants: his parents’ favoritism, an outstanding partner, and everyone’s admiration. But Luo Zhan is not satisfied with the life laid out for him. Compared with everything he is meant to gain by the end, Luo Zhan would rather bully and knead An Yan, turn the prickly rose into a well-behaved pet cat at his side, and make the original story’s evil villain into a pitiful little thing who treats him with utmost deference. So Luo Zhan hacks into An Yan’s computer and phone, then uses his identity as the all-knowing System to tell An Yan the entire plot of the book. Luo Zhan watches with wicked amusement as An Yan goes from defiant resistance, to pitifully acting cute, and finally to obediently clinging to him and calling him Big Brother. The pampered ragdoll cat bares its teeth, arrogant and unruly. Then scare it on purpose, wear down its claws, and hold it close to pet and tease it to your heart’s content. The frail fake young master cannot escape the cage laid out for him, and the simple-minded fool has no idea that the hand controlling the plot is right in front of him. Only... At the moment An Yan calls him Big Brother, Luo Zhan suddenly no longer wants a pet cat or a pitiful little thing.
