Chai Shao is a low-ranking police officer at a local station. He never imagined that, in his early twenties and before ever having been in a relationship, he'd end up raising someone else's child.
The child's name is Lu Hui, and he's his mentor's son.
Chai Shao took Lu Hui home partly out of affection and partly to repay a debt: the day his mentor died should have been Chai Shao's shift.
*
Lu Hui had a rebellious face and a volatile temper. He was never particularly nice to Chai Shao, and enjoyed giving him trouble for no reason.
Fortunately, Lu Hui was straightforward and wore every emotion on his face. Chai Shao was easygoing and didn't think it was a big deal.
Until Chai Shao happened to discover that Lu Hui seemed to like boys.
Chai Shao: ...What do I do if I've turned someone else's kid gay?
*
Chai Shao was stunned and confused. He tried to talk to Lu Hui and find out who the person was.
Lu Hui didn't say a word. He just stared at him.
For the first time, Chai Shao couldn't read his expression.
Years later, when Lu Hui had grown up, he cornered Chai Shao at the door, and Chai Shao finally heard the answer.
"It's you, Uncle."
Chai Shao put on a professional fake smile and moved Lu Hui's wandering hand off him. "Heh... You're joking, right?"
*
Chai Shao didn't know what had gotten into Lu Hui. He came back from university acting like a different person. Before, every emotion showed on his face, and he always said what he meant. What a good kid!
Now, all he had to do was say things like:
"Uncle, I missed you."
Chai Shao: ...
Who was it that hadn't come back even once in four years?
"Are you going to be home late today? I left the light on for you. I'll be fine here by myself."
Chai Shao: ...
Why did he still say exactly what he meant, but somehow make it sound so weird?
*
Before Chai Shao could figure out what had gone wrong, Lu Hui came over with a pillow, looking pitiful as he asked to sleep with him. Chai Shao hadn't even said no yet when Lu Hui furrowed his brow and his eyes turned red.
Chai Shao tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. He looked at the person beside him and wondered: How did I end up letting him in?
He felt a hand settle on his waist. His body tensed, and just as he was about to move, Lu Hui said quietly, "Uncle, am I bothering you? I'm sorry. I dreamed something happened to you yesterday, and I'm still shaken up."
Chai Shao was used to Lu Hui being blunt and losing his temper. He'd never seen him use a trick like this, and his conscience immediately started eating at him!
Chai Shao: ...Fine, let's sleep!
Where Chai Shao couldn't see, Lu Hui's lips curled up.
Ah, it's so easy to fool someone with a soft heart.
Bonus scene:
Chai Shao gave in once and missed his chance to stop things. After sharing a bed for several days, he suddenly realized that Lu Hui was getting more and more brazen about coming and going from his room. Wait a second, wasn't this his room?
There was no way he could kick him out now.
In the middle of the night, Chai Shao once again grabbed Lu Hui's wandering hand. Lu Hui clasped his wrist in return and whispered into his ear, "Uncle, I really missed you."
Chai Shao was already immune to the seriousness of it all, and expertly closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep.
Lu Hui rarely said anything more. He smiled, lowered his head, and pressed his lips to Chai Shao's.
Chai Shao's eyes flew open, and he sat up.
Lu Hui licked the corner of his mouth and propped his head up with one hand, looking at him with an innocent, harmless expression and dimples showing. "Sorry, I thought you closed your eyes because you wanted me to kiss you."
Chai Shao: ?
--- Reading Guide:
1. Updates at 6 p.m. every other day. If there's a ranking event, I'll update according to the schedule. I'll ask for leave if something comes up.
2. This is not a crime investigation story. There are no major cases, just everyday trivialities and petty matters. The pacing is slow, so if you want to read a crime-solving story, please look elsewhere.
3. Overall, this is a sweet, everyday-life story, expected to be around 300,000 words (though my estimates are never accurate, hmm). The plot is all in service of the main characters' relationship. Don't overanalyze or map it onto real life. Readers who demand historical or technical accuracy, please don't read.
4. If it's not to your taste, stop reading and close the page. Please don't start a fight.
5. Feel free to ask about professional matters. Please don't offer unsolicited writing advice.
Below is the blurb for my upcoming story, A General's Guide to Saving Himself
Flamboyant shou X reserved gong
How can a general whose achievements overshadow the ruler retire peacefully and safely from court to enjoy his old age?
Declare his loyalty to the emperor? No. Resign voluntarily? No.
Answer: Make the emperor fall in love with him.
Cheng Yu transmigrated into a book, into the body of a general who shared his name. The general had followed Xie Jingping before he became emperor. Back then, Xie Jingping was still a passionate little ball of sunshine.
Who could have known that this little sun would later become a murderous, tyrannical obsessive who spared no one around him?
The general opened new territory for him, quelled the wars, and helped him ascend the throne. But once everything was settled, Xie Jingping grew suspicious of the general, weakening his military power both openly and behind the scenes. In the end, he discarded him once he was no longer useful.
Cheng Yu: As expected, all emperors are cut from the same cloth.
He decided that wasn't going to happen. He hadn't worked himself to death from overwork in the twenty-first century, and he certainly wasn't going to die so miserably here. For the sake of his life, and because all he wanted was to retire in peace, he needed a plan.
After reading so many BL novels, he came up with a method he thought was completely foolproof: Make the emperor fall in love with him!
And so the mighty general embarked on the path of seducing (not really) the emperor.
There was no time to waste. He had to win Xie Jingping over while he was still a little sun!
Xie Jingping felt that Cheng Yu had been acting a little strange lately. For the past few days, he hadn't been studying warfare or practicing with weapons. Instead, he seemed to have taken an interest in studying him (?!)
Cheng Yu: What do you usually like to eat? Drink? Do? Do you have any hobbies?
Xie Jingping: ?
Besides studying him, Cheng Yu also seemed especially clingy, going so far as to cling to him in bed!!
Cheng Yu: I came to discuss something with you.
Xie Jingping: Sure... Wait... You can talk without taking your clothes off! And taking mine off isn't okay either! Are you crazy?!
When Xie Jingping woke up in the morning and looked at the person lying in his arms, he thought dejectedly: This is a disaster. What even happened?
Theme: Growth, reconciliation, and the fact that life moves forward
I can't do it anymore. Why did I deflate Officer Chai's tires again?
I wonder if it's a bit too gentle?
I really like this book🥰Thank you so much
Everything will go well from now on
Yes, will you be able to raise children?
Oh, my God, it's dripping, it's dripping
So, I really can't pretend, just touch my head
When Mr. Zhou goes to bed tonight, you'd better take turns keeping watch with both eyes (Heshan's smile 🙂 )
Oops, touch our little one 🤗🤗
Xiao Hui has no choice but to not reply to the message now, but Officer Chai took advantage of him 😳
