A Rebel's Daughter on the Run

My father was captured after losing a battle. His fate is unknown.

Traitorous officials in court accused him of colluding with the enemy. The emperor believed their lies, had our home ransacked, and was going to confiscate me as a slave.

Qiuhua wept as she held a strip of white silk and a rope. "Miss, if we have to die, we can't let them trample on Master’s dignity."

She put the hemp rope around her own neck.

I stared blankly at the white silk for a moment, then swept it aside. "I don't want to die."

"I don't just want to live. I want to escape and clear my father's name."

Meeting her horrified gaze, I said firmly, "Qiuhua, trust me."
