Twenty-year-old Yu Sheng is unfortunate. She suffers from severe depression, but doesn't dare die because she has to care for her paralyzed mother and repay the loan sharks her father owed before he died.

But twenty-year-old Yu Sheng is also lucky. A ray of light unexpectedly shines into her life, giving her another ten years.

Her new neighbor can neither lift nor carry anything. He clearly has a face that says "don't mess with me," yet his temper is surprisingly good. So good, in fact, that the street vendors charge him twice as much for seafood as they do everyone else. Yu Sheng can't stand it, so she takes him to argue with them, only to get mocked by the vendor. The man, who had been so laid-back just moments before, suddenly flies into a rage, flips over the vendor's stall, then pulls Yu Sheng away at a brisk pace after tossing down a few bills.

After that, none of the vendors on the old street will sell seafood to the two of them, so Yu Sheng takes him to gather seafood at low tide. She ends up so sunburned that when she goes to perform as a mermaid at the aquarium, her manager gives her a scolding. Yu Sheng puts her wild imagination to work, painting her whole body black. Her new neighbor laughs so hard at her exotic black-mermaid look that he can barely stand up straight.

Yu Sheng watches his eyes crinkle with laughter and chokes on water twice. The water in the tank seems much warmer than usual.

Later, someone very, very important enters Yu Sheng's life. Unfortunately, his health is so poor that she has no choice but to "sell" him twice, hoping to keep him alive.

The first time, she sells him to the wealthy former fiancée who broke off their engagement. That time, she waits for him for seven days.

The second time, she sells him to his father. That time, she waits for him for ten years.
