Marrying a Scoundrel

[A humble concubine-born daughter proves that marrying well matters more than being born well!]

**A resounding slap in the face to everyone who looked on just for a laugh**

Wang Xuan was a concubine-born daughter in the household of the Assistant Minister of Court Ceremonial, an "idle post" in the capital.

Before the Lantern Festival, Wang Xuan sincerely made a wish before the Buddha, praying to be blessed with a good husband.

At the Lantern Festival fair, the Buddha took great care to weed out the jade-like third son of the Marquis of Dingyuan, the mighty and handsome young general of the Sun family, and Song Bianxiu, the brilliant new top second-place graduate in the palace examinations.

Wang Xuan fainted three times and returned to the morning of the Lantern Festival, secretly looking forward to a fourth try.

But perhaps the Buddha had dozed off for a moment, because she ended up receiving the lantern of Zhang Yujing, the notorious young playboy whose name was known throughout the capital.

Before the wedding:

"Fourth girl, for someone of your status, this marriage is quite a good match."

"The Zhang family's young master has a poor reputation in the capital. I'm afraid Fourth Sister will have a hard time in the future."

"Every pot has its lid. Cousin Xuan should just accept it."

After the wedding:

"Our Fourth Girl has always been blessed."

"Fourth Sister, I was hoping you could do me a favor, you see..."

"Cousin Xuan, could you please speak to the marquis for me and ask him to spare the general? We are all family, after all."

A little scene:

Zhang Yujing reached out to Wang Xuan and said patiently, "Xuanxuan, come here."

Looking at the man before her, Wang Xuan suddenly recalled a bloody scene she'd witnessed before. She instinctively shrank back.

Zhang Yujing's expression tightened. He forcibly pulled her into his arms, gently stroked her cheek, and smiled. "You really are a little heartless thing."
