Three things happened when Yan Hui was eighteen.
First, he got dumped.
Second, he slept with the person he had a crush on.
Third, he got pregnant.
Yan Hui finally understood why his parents had always favored his younger brother and left him to fend for himself.
At eighteen, he escaped his family of origin and made a home for himself.
At eighteen, Yu Xiang learned three lessons.
First, sooner or later, you pay for saying one thing while meaning another.
Second, people who seem easygoing can be even more resolute in their actions.
Third, a duck that's already in your mouth really can fly away.
It took Yu Xiang a whole ten years to finally find Yan Hui, only to discover he already had a boyfriend.
Angry, miserable, and utterly helpless, Yu Xiang spent the whole night listening to "Complete."
Yu Xiang happened to run into Yan Hui on a date with his boyfriend. While Yan Hui was in the restroom, Yu Xiang warned the man, then handed him a business card and said he could come to him whenever he ran into trouble.
The man blinked, then pulled out a sheet of paper, looking delighted. "Then, Uncle, could you sign this for me? I don't dare ask Dad to sign it."
Yu Xiang looked down. A row of large black characters was printed across the page:
Third Grade, First Semester, Chinese Language Unit Four Test.
Good news: There's no one else by my wife's side.
Bad news: My wife may already be married and even have a grown son. QAQ
Yan Hui: If only you'd look in a mirror... Never mind.

Eight years ago, Qi Xu was the academy's most outstanding freshman, an S-rank esper whose spirit form was the mythical phoenix. He was full of ambition, with a brilliant future ahead of him.
Eight years later, Qi Xu was a single father with a three-year-old son, scraping by as a miner in the underground city.
His son was the child he'd given birth to. He was obedient and sweet, his dad's little darling. As for how a man could give birth...
Good question. Qi Xu wanted to know, too.
An inexplicable pregnancy and childbirth caused Qi Xu's spirit form to weaken and vanish, and he fell from being an S-rank esper to an ordinary person. He struggled and resented his fate, but in the end, all he could do was accept reality.
Life was hard, but his son was a sweetheart. He found joy in hardship, and their days were peaceful and warm.
Until his usually well-behaved son got into a fight with a little friend, and a spirit form suddenly appeared: a little black dragon with wings growing from its back.
Seeing his son's spirit form, Qi Xu was consumed by rage and reckless fury. He scooped up his son and charged straight to a certain guild's headquarters, kicking open the chairman's office door.
"I'll be damned, Jiang Yao! So you little punk are responsible for this! Pay up, right now!"
Jiang Yao, guild chairman, heir to an esper family, owner of a mythical black dragon spirit form, and currently facing bankruptcy, slowly looked up.
"?"
Eight years ago, Qi Xu was the leading light among espers from ordinary backgrounds, while Jiang Yao was the cream of the crop among heirs to powerful families. They usually stayed out of each other's way, but whenever they met, they fought like they wanted to kill each other.
Eight years later, life had long since worn down Qi Xu's sharp edges, while Jiang Yao was shouldering heavy responsibilities and struggling on the brink of bankruptcy.
When they met again, Jiang Yao watched the little black dragon flitting around Qi Xu and his son. After a moment of silence, he asked a question that struck at the heart of the matter.
"When did we sleep together?"
...Good question. Qi Xu didn't know, either.

Lin Wangshu had a dream. He dreamed that he leaped from a rooftop, his heart full of regret, in unbearable agony.
He couldn't remember why he'd jumped in the dream, but the emotions lingered, and for the first time, he left for school by himself that morning.
Then he ran into his classmate Xiao Ran at the entrance to their residential compound.
Xiao Ran was a brilliant student, clever and hardworking. His only disadvantage was his poor family background. At school, he was so quiet he seemed like a shadow.
Lin Wangshu had hardly ever spoken to him, but from that day on, he began to notice that Xiao Ran seemed to be everywhere.
On the roadside during a downpour, at the school gate when he'd forgotten his student ID, and in the classroom during a monthly exam when he had no pencil sharpener, Xiao Ran always appeared in time to lend a hand.
At first, Lin Wangshu thought it was just a coincidence. Then, after he asked his older stepbrother for help with a math problem, he found two exercise books on his desk filled with mistakes, both bearing Xiao Ran's name.
When he opened them, he found every problem he'd once gotten wrong, along with the best solutions. One book was for his first year of high school, the other for his second.
Only then did Lin Wangshu belatedly notice Xiao Ran's hidden yet intent gaze.
Xiao Ran's family was poor. Poverty bred misfortune, as well as gloom and resentment. Fortunately, when he was fourteen, at his most sensitive and insecure, he met a tender-hearted moon.
Xiao Ran knew how far apart they were in status and didn't dare hope that the moon would shine on him alone, so he buried all his shameful desires deep in his heart.
That was, until he watched his moon leap from a rooftop and shatter on the ground.
After spending twenty years taking revenge, the day he finally got it, Xiao Ran jumped from that same rooftop, hoping to join his moon.
When he opened his eyes again, he had been reborn twenty-one years earlier, one year before Lin Wangshu's fall. Looking at the lively figure before him, he thought:
In this life, no matter what, he would stop the tragedy from happening. The first step was to cure Lin Wangshu of his love-struck delusions.
At first, Wangshu thought Xiao Ran was a stalker who spied on him, and felt both frightened and helpless. In truth, Xiao Ran was simply using his advantage as someone reborn to remember every little thing about him.
Years later, when Xiao Ran really did put a tracking device on him, Wangshu said this to a friend who thought he'd developed Stockholm syndrome:
"Xiao Ran just wants to know where I am. He's not controlling me. What's he done wrong?"
