What Species Am I, Anyway?

#By the time I understood that unfamiliar emotion, all that remained of you was your body and its beating core#

Just as Yin Lanzhao was about to wake, a gentle voice reached her ears.

"Your name is Yin Lanzhao. I hope you can live."

When she opened her eyes again, she was drifting through outer space. Finding it unbearably dull, she headed toward the nearest planet shrouded in mist, eventually landing in its vast forest.

There, she met a passing traveler and set off with them on a journey of exploration.

She seemed to have been born emotionally detached, looking on coldly as everything around her unfolded.

Until, during her travels, she encountered a mother who died in a disaster trying to save her child, a girl who worked several jobs a day to buy medicine for her sick friend, and members of a demon clan who offered up their lifespans so they could stay with their beloved, among others.

She once asked her master, "Master, why do they do that?"

"Because their feelings are precious. They give them the courage to do anything for the people they love."

"Feelings? What are those?"

Her master merely stroked her head and said gently, "You'll understand someday."

But the deepest emotion Yin Lanzhao ever felt was endless pain.
