[Western Crossover] The Background Character Gacha

The city is offering daily pay for people to deal with mutated monsters.

The work is dangerous and difficult, but the pay is good.

After paying rent, Le Pei has only $27 left. She can't afford to worry about the danger. She has to earn money: it's poverty or death.

Luckily, there's a magical card-drawing app on her phone. She gets three free draws a day, and whoever she draws immediately joins her team as a teammate.

The app says that if she leads her team in snatching jobs from superheroes and finishes first, the reward will be multiplied many times over.

She rubs her hands together, seeing hope, and then...

R card, passerby, retired fishing enthusiast: "Why isn't this fish going into the bag? No, I already put it in."

R card, passerby, street cleaner: "Who has no manners? Why isn't the trash sorted?"

R card, passerby, innocent college student: "Could you give me an internship certificate? I'll do anything."

Job 1: Beat Batman and Robin to dealing with a crazed sewer-dwelling fish-man in downtown Gotham.

Le Pei's vision instantly went black. Who, me?

She draws cards every day, and gets R cards every time. With such a motley assortment, the app might as well be called the Passerby Character Card-Draw App.

Le Pei refuses to give up.

At last, golden light flashes across the screen. She excitedly holds her breath.

But it's another R card.

She's never had good luck in her life, so Le Pei finally gives up and listlessly checks who she got this time.

A tabloid reporter, Clark Kent.

There's a little heart next to his name, with the note: [Your Neighbor, Whom You're Madly in Love With]

She screams and accidentally flings her phone away.

Why is this thing eavesdropping on her talking to herself?!

Theme: This world isn't beyond saving. Our feelings and ideals are the weapons we use to fight emptiness.
