In Greece, but I Believe in Guanyin

Antigone opened her eyes and returned to the eve of the turning point in her fate.

The plague in Thebes showed no sign of ending, so her father, King Oedipus, was going to seek answers from Apollo, god of prophecy.

She had once been among those waiting for the oracle.

Now she knew everything.

This was a curse of fate, a terrible tragedy.

After today, her father would blind himself and be exiled, her mother would hang herself, and her brothers would kill each other over the throne, both falling so their uncle could claim the crown.

She would wander with her father and eventually take her own life in a dungeon.

Antigone rushed up the sacrificial platform, but for a moment she was speechless.

The gods had long since given their tacit approval, allowing the curse to take effect. They knew everything.

The ritual was about to begin. No matter whom she prayed to, the outcome would be the same.

Could fate not be defied?

The sun shone blindingly bright. In a moment of blindness, she saw a golden lotus.

The one who hears the cries of the world, saves those who suffer, and guides all living beings to salvation.

She was about to commit the crime of defying the gods of Greece.

"I behold the people of the heavens and all beings in the three evil realms, and give rise to great compassion, wishing to sever all their afflictions and bring them peace."
