His name is Bai Tian: Bai as in "white," Tian as in "day."
Bai Tian used to be a clear-eyed, clueless college student. Now he's a little kid trying to survive in the wilderness of a forest where few people ever go.
One day, someone came to the woods.
He was a handsome swordsman, though the sword at his waist was no more than a toy-like strip of iron.
Many people once laughed at a sword like that, but they stopped laughing later.
Bai Tian didn't know who he was, and didn't think he was ridiculous.
He just thought the man was a nuisance.
He was getting in the way of Bai Tian catching rabbits.
Ever since transmigrating, Bai Tian had been saddled with a System, but he could never get it to unlock. As time went by, he forgot all about it.
Then one day, Bai Tian went with his master, Fei Jianke, to see the famous Li Tanhua again, and met another young man his own age, surnamed Ye, who was with Li Tanhua.
With a ding, the useless System that hadn't responded in years started up.
[The "The Four of Us Are Amazing" System has started. Teammate "Flying Dagger Heir" automatically bound. Team members: 2/4. Support has not yet been triggered.]
Bai Tian: ???
Later, Bai Tian got used to the life of being dragged around by the useless System, which would randomly start up and take him and his teammates on missions through different worlds. His original teammate, the "Flying Dagger Heir," was joined by a new one, the "Peanut-Eating Swordsman."
The three of them went all over, taking on dungeons from the great desert to the Valley of the Wicked, breaking into the Divine Water Palace on the left and heading to Bat Island on the right. In a crisis, the System would even call in someone from their network of connections to help. Their days were colorful and eventful.
Years passed, but the final unlucky teammate chosen by the System was nowhere to be seen.
That is, until a pale young man in black, with a limp and a sword, arrived in Border Town.
His vision went dark. When he came to, he found himself in a strange place, with three young men standing before him.
One smiled in greeting, another ate peanuts without a care, and the last stood at the front and said to him:
"You're awake. The Golden Wind and Fine Rain Tower and the Six and a Half Hall have started fighting over there. Let's find somewhere else to talk, shall we?"
A very ridiculous little skit:
Fu, the unlucky guy forcibly chosen by the useless System: Maybe I showed up at a bad time.
Bai, Ye, and Lu, also unlucky: No, you showed up at exactly the right time.
*Before you read:
1. The character portrayals in this story are based on my personal understanding of the original works and may differ from those in other wuxia fanworks.
2. Overly harsh negative comments about non-villain characters will be deleted. For example, completely denying Li Tanhua's character, or saying that Jiang and Hua's elopement ruined the reputations of everyone else in the Flower Shifting Palace...
3. Apologies for OOC characterization and some personal headcanons. Most of the worlds in this story are set in fictional dynasties, so please don't scrutinize the historical details too much.
4. The person mentioned in the title is the protagonist's master, not his romantic partner. The pairing is with the peanut lover among the three teammates. (A friend heard the idea of a group of three in Border Town and strongly requested a romance between the disciples of Fei and Jing, so... The two masters: ?)
5. Since the original work never made it explicit, this story does not establish that Lu can't live without him. (Yeah.)
6. The blurb has been saved and archived.
