The world of Rule-Based Horror is overrun with monsters.
Players awaken different supernatural abilities based on their personal strengths and rely on them to survive the trials. Su Yaoming is no exception. Her ability is... beating things up.
The monsters who keep getting beaten up: ? Which one of us is supposed to be surviving these trials?
Even stranger, every evil spirit, vengeful ghost, or Lovecraftian monster she beats up ends up praising her ability afterward.
“I remember the first time I met my master. She affectionately patted us on the shoulders with both hands. If she accidentally smashed our bones, she'd even thoughtfully put them back together. She was so gentle and considerate.”
“The atmosphere in the Book of Madness is great. Every monster in there is a genius, they talk so nicely, and they look so bizarre. I've come to think of it as home.”
“I'm telling the truth. Why would we praise our master just because we're afraid of being beaten? She could have killed us outright, but she didn't. That proves she's kind!”
The other players: ? Are we even following the same script?
Isn't she the boss of the trial?

Thanks to a cheap street-stall necklace, Su Yaoming gained the ability to “store” monsters.
The necklace's proper name is the Book of Madness, but when you open it, it's just a monster encyclopedia...
A demon better at disguising itself than a fake human is a thoroughly upright ideological mentor in the book, teaching everyone not to eat people indiscriminately.
A pale monster with four eyes wins second place in the Book of Madness climbing competition. First place goes to a huge lump of flesh with four fleshy limbs.
There's also a water ghost just hauled out of a well, a half-rotted walking corpse, an electronic ghost that likes to copy things...
Su Yaoming: The encyclopedia still has blank pages. Which monster should I catch today to fill it out?

“Every species does everything it can to survive the endless cosmic horrors, fighting with all its might to keep the hope and flame of civilization alive. You look at us with four eyes and six hands and think we're monsters.
“But you don't realize that, to us, with your two eyes and two hands,
you humans are the malformed monsters.”
1. This is part of the Rule-Based Horror series. The first book is Do Not Hit the NPCs in the Escape Game. Feel free to check it out if you're interested, but you don't need to read the earlier books to enjoy this one.
2. The trials come from a variety of wild ideas and may feature different styles, not just Chinese horror. Everyone has their own tastes, so there's no need to explain if you drop the story. Thanks for reading and adding it to your library. If you like it, feel free to save it! This is probably one of the upcoming projects most likely to start soon.
Theme: In a series of terrifying, dangerous worlds governed by strange rules, the heroine, whose ability is to beat things up, leads everyone to overcome evil and fight monsters. Expect a thrilling plot full of unexpected twists. Every trial has its own message, ranging from survival to emotion, and from the individual to entire species. As long as you stay alive, there's hope.
