[Not sure when I'll start, so I'll put this here for now]
[I'm terrible at writing blurbs and titles, so they might change at any time, but the basic idea won't]
Xue Ji always remembered having a twin brother. When they were eight, the boy was kidnapped by traffickers, and they never heard from him again.
Even though his parents never mentioned him again.
Even though none of his things remained in the house.
Xue Ji never forgot.
Eleven years later, an accidental murder dragged Xue Ji into a bizarre game.
From then on, fate and fortune, feng shui and divination, spirit-walking and corpse-driving, exorcisms and obscene rites...
All the unorthodox practices of normal society became his only hope of survival.
Within the heavens and earth are the Five Immortals and Five Creatures.
Heaven, earth, humans, gods, and ghosts; scaleless, scaled, furry, feathered, and shelled.
A mortal, one of the scaleless creatures.
Neither of the Three Teachings nor the Nine Schools.
Xue Ji was forced to plunge headfirst into the feeding trough of immortals, ghosts, demons, and Buddhas, so he could only grit his teeth and fight his way to survival.
Who would have guessed that among the monsters trying to devour him, there would be one with a face exactly like his?
*
Not long afterward, that face appeared in the real world too.
The man wore ragged clothes, carried a cloth bundle wherever he went, and spoke in a strange dialect no one could understand. His eyes also seemed to have something wrong with them.
He said his name was... A Zhuo.
When they finally recognized each other, A Zhuo refused to return to his original name, refused to acknowledge their parents, and even refused to enter the family home.
No matter how their parents reasoned with him or begged him, he only stared at them with those pitch-black eyes, as if he could see something more secretive.
"Master says, this is... the rule..."
His brother stammered in the Mandarin he had only recently begun to learn.
"A spirit-walker does not enter a home."
Xue Ji didn't like A Zhuo.
But in the end, they would walk the same road toward the same fate.
Because they were brothers.
Because each bore half of the same destiny.
And, more than anything, because they were the only ones of their kind in this world.
Please note:
1. This is folk-horror suspense. Do not take it as fact.
2. The brothers have dual perspectives. Both are forever alone. No romance, no teammates, no crushes, no love story, though there might be a little brotherly affection.
Premise: Reject superstition
