Reading the Heart

Lie detection, behavioral prediction, criminal profiling, suspect analysis... Criminal psychology brings together a wide range of techniques. It is not a field for showing off one’s skills, nor is it mysticism pretending to be science.

Studying criminals and investigating the past and present of suspects, delving into their upbringing and inner wounds, is not about making excuses for their crimes, much less helping them escape legal punishment. In fact, criminal psychology exists to explore the limits of human behavior.

Lang Yueci, a member of Rongxin City’s major crimes squad, is a man of few words.

Everyone knows he has earned many commendations, but they don’t know the pain and torment behind them.

In the stillness of countless late nights, Lang Yueci has asked himself: If only one person survived, was that fortunate or unfortunate?

A seemingly simple murder case brought to light events buried for years.

A murder that had gone unsolved for three months began to crack in just over ten days after criminal psychology professor Shi Ye arrived.

While working together, Shi Ye saw Lang Yueci’s ability and talent, as well as the illness and struggle hidden beneath his calm demeanor.

There is no shame in asking for help, and it is not a sign of weakness. In fact, it is a mark of courage.

Lang Yueci is deeply broken, yet incredibly resilient. Amid that extreme tension, he has found an inner balance.

Shi Ye has always understood that psychology is not a cure-all, and that there is nothing he can do for Lang Yueci. He once firmly believed that people were meant to walk together for a while before going their separate ways. But when he held Lang Yueci’s hand, he was willing to abandon his old convictions and reason, hoping for a love that would last forever.
