A Sweet Little Treat
I lean toward shou in CPJ. I love couples who are both deeply in love, and prefer romance without angst, especially when the gong pursues the shou. If the shou pursues the gong, the gong has to return his feelings. Even if he doesn't love him, he mustn't put the shou through too much angst.

Court Intrigue, Wuxia, and Power Plays
Mostly historical fantasy settings, though I won't necessarily file them under historical fiction. The focus is on the imperial court and palace. There may be some jianghu or wuxia stories, but the court should make up more of the novel overall.
Readable to the End
The characters, writing, plot, and pacing are all good. The protagonists are at least as smart as I am, and have above-average morals. Four stars because I can't give them five.
Mutual Devotion / Pure Love
Trying hard to be fair to both sides. No welcome for people who break up or reverse my preferred pairings, or extreme top/bottom loyalists. I’m not into irresistible protagonists, disposable background characters, competition for the heroine, weak-in-bed tops, groveling redemption arcs, dog training, bootlickers, or tailor-made content. Criticize the books, not the people.
