The Kichise family runs a shrine, a famous one in the area that is always busy with worshippers.
But as a good young man of the twenty-first century, Kichise Ichi firmly believes in materialism. As far as he's concerned, gods don't exist.
Then one day, he discovers to his horror that he's come down with a strange illness!
If he doesn't make sarcastic comments, he becomes weak all over, his limbs tremble, his mouth goes dry, and his face turns red...
Kichise Ichi: W-wait...! What's with these weird symptoms? Basically, I'll drop dead if I don't make snarky comments!
That's right. If he doesn't make snarky comments, he'll die.
To save his life, he stops insisting that he never believed in gods and immediately tells his family about his strange illness.
Dad: Can't you just keep making snarky comments to stay alive?
Kichise Ichi: There aren't that many things to make fun of in everyday life!
Mom: But you're making fun of things right now, Ichi.
After much discussion and no progress, everyone reaches the same decision: just go to school first!
Kichise Ichi: I beg you, could you at least be a little more sensible?
And so, young Kichise proudly enrolls at Karasuno, where he discovers that something is off...
Kichise Ichi: Please, don't leave me hanging at a time like this.
The Karasuno volleyball club is a magical place, gathering all sorts of people from every class. The imposing dad, the loving mom, the attentive eldest daughter, and the troublemaking kid make up one broken family.
Kichise Ichi: There's so much to comment on. Maybe I'll really live to a ripe old age.
And so young Kichise's snarky fight for survival begins!
Kichise: Hey... (weakly)
Reader Notice: Snarky protagonist, check. He's forced to make sarcastic comments, but it turns out he's surprisingly talented at it.
He joins the volleyball club but won't become a starter. Like Yamaguchi, he'll be a substitute.
There will be some interactions between the protagonists, like Makoto from the neighboring story, but not much.
One last thing: the pairing is with Suga-mama. I'll do my best with the romance. If it doesn't work out, I don't mind if you treat it as having no pairing ("??`")
Everything else is friendship, with no secondary pairings.
