The first person Mei Xi sees when he is born is Huo Er.
Huo Er is the village elder, the oldest and most respected of them all. He's cruel and violent, temperamental, and spends all day eating and sleeping. He's also a bachelor.
No one in the village can do anything about him. Everyone fears and respects him.
That day, Huo Er unexpectedly crawls out of his den, drooling and charging over in a terrifying frenzy, as if he'd just woken up, still half-asleep and starving, and come to eat a dragon egg!
After bowling over all the dragons in his way, he shoves his huge black nostrils against a little silver dragon that has just hatched and is struggling to crawl out, then snarls and pushes it halfway back into its shell.
Huo Er sticks out his tongue and licks the trembling Mei Xi all over, giving him a bath in drool. Then he gives a mighty roar, spreads his wings, and flies off.
What a lunatic!

Mei Xi's childhood is anything but ordinary.
Huo Er keeps appearing around him out of nowhere.
He scares him and teases him. After frightening away all the friends playing with Mei Xi, he grabs Mei Xi and won't let him leave, tormenting him like a cat playing with a mouse until he cries, then letting out a strange, terrifying laugh.
Afterward, his conscience gets the better of him, and he starts compensating Mei Xi with all kinds of random food, gold and silver jewelry, and junk.
As a result, Mei Xi often gets diarrhea and nosebleeds, and the little nest he builds gets crushed by these "gifts" every few days.
