Detective Hagiwara Wants to Save Himself, by Yan Xun

In the eyes of ordinary people, Detective Hagiwara’s life had gone exceptionally smoothly. He was handsome, excelled in school, and had a likable personality. It seemed he’d never faced any setbacks growing up, and had coasted along quite happily to the present.

But in truth, his seemingly perfect life had gone off track right from the start.

Hagiwara Kenji had been able to see ghosts and monsters that ordinary people couldn’t since he was a child.

They weren’t cute, fluffy little cartoon creatures. They were real, right there before his eyes: hideous, vicious, terrifying, bloody monsters and ghosts.

Don’t let them realize I can see them. Don’t meet their eyes. Don’t let them notice me.

Startled by a headless ghost passing by, Detective Hagiwara turned around with his usual smile, looked at his friends, and said theatrically, “Come help me wash my eyes!”

Friend number one, Detective Furuya: “What?”

Hagiwara Kenji: “It’s so great that you guys have handsome faces!”

Friend number two, Detective Morofushi: “…Thanks for the compliment?”

Hagiwara Kenji: “You have no idea what my eyes just went through!”

Friend number three, Detective Date: “What’s gotten into you all of a sudden?”

His childhood friend Matsuda just rolled his eyes. “Ignore him.”

Because ghosts and monsters kept appearing in front of him, Hagiwara Kenji would often unconsciously stray from his original path, and ended up making some unexpected discoveries as a result.

Well, how could that not count as saving himself?

#Good friends stick together. Matsuda saved himself once, so let Hagiwara save himself too!

No pairings. Hagiwara can see ghosts!
