After an accident, Cheng Lu transmigrates into a minor character in a hodgepodge novel, a disciple of the Hehuan Sect.
According to the original plot, he’s supposed to use his body to seduce all sorts of big shots, hoping to make them fight among themselves while he reaps the benefits. But when the scheme is exposed, he ends up dead without a proper burial.
He glances at his reflection: a pretty face, fair skin so delicate it looks like you could squeeze water from it. Then he silently changes into coarse hemp clothes.
And goes to farm.
*
To stay alive, Cheng Lu does his best to avoid all contact with the cultivation world.
His own farmland gets better and better. He goes from barely having enough to eat to developing a modern agricultural industry: spirit beasts plow the fields, magical tools sow the seeds, and a strangely persistent “friend” can summon rain and clear the skies in the blink of an eye, so he doesn’t have to rely on the weather.
But fate has other plans.
The chief disciple of the Ruthless Sect, who once looked down on him the most, abandons a century of cultivation for his sake and kneels in the rain, begging him to look his way.
A big, bristly dog he found by the field turns out to be a spirit beast belonging to an old ancestor of a certain clan. After making a name for himself and founding a sect, it shows up with an eight-person bridal sedan chair and insists on marrying him as its bandit queen.
Even the aloof young man he casually rescued after he was drugged turns out to be an Immortal Venerable who has lived in seclusion for a thousand years. He keeps getting teary-eyed and gently tying Cheng Lu’s wrists with an Immortal-Binding Rope, saying, “Cheng Lu, don’t go.”
Cheng Lu eats the organic cherry tomatoes he grew himself, then gives one to Su Shi, who’s beside him controlling a dark cloud like a drone to water the fields.
“You’re not some kind of monster too, are you?”
Su Shi smiles at him.

Before long, people throughout the cultivation world are horrified to discover that the man beside their unattainable beloved, the little junior disciple of the Hehuan Sect, Cheng Lu, is none other than Su Shi, the infamous Demon Venerable who terrorizes the Three Realms.
When the Immortal Realm hurries over with its armies, they find Su Shi being kicked out the door.
The immortals stare dumbfounded at Cheng Lu inside, the man who has never once shown any of them a kind face. His eyes are red, he’s draped in Su Shi’s black-and-gold cloak, and faint red marks are visible on his skin. Looking fierce, he’s chasing the Demon Venerable, a man everyone fears, out of the room.
Su Shi slips on his outer robe as he laughs wickedly toward the room. “Baby, don’t be so mean. You were having fun just now too...”
Then he turns and sees the immortals riding on clouds, and his expression turns cold.
The door behind him closes by itself, and he soars into the air. He tilts his head toward the others, with countless demonic shadows looming in the vast black clouds behind him.
“Who just looked at my wife?”
Su Shi bares a chillingly white grin.
“Gouge your own eyes out.”
