During graduation season, idle Pei Yunle had been far too indulgent, so her mother bundled her up and sent her back to the countryside to "reflect."
The southern town was always shrouded in mist, its white brick walls and gray-tiled roofs cloaked in the evening haze.
But Pei Yunle couldn't appreciate the rustic scenery. Everything felt damp and gloomy. The bed was harder than stone, the food blander than plain water, and the house was always full of mosquitoes, spiders, and other bugs. There were even terrifying noises coming from the hill behind the house.
To make matters worse, the person in the room next door was mute. Talkative Pei Yunle had a breakdown eight hundred times a day.
*
When Chen Qingtang went to the town entrance to pick up Pei Yunle, she was still sporting pink hair and dressed in an alternative style, arguing furiously with a few men who had spread rumors about her. She looked utterly fearless.
Pei Yunle was a real spoiled heiress, and she often lost her temper with Chen Qingtang. She loved making a fuss and bursting into tears.
Then one rainy night, Pei Yunle knocked on Chen Qingtang's door. She was trembling all over, her pale-pink lips gone white. With dewy lashes fluttering, she looked like a pitiful little puppy with nowhere to go.
"Chen Qingtang, I'm sick..."
Listening to her describe her symptoms, Chen Qingtang had never heard of an illness like that. But she was kindhearted, and as Pei Yunle's demands grew more and more unreasonable, all she could do was keep giving in.
Pei Yunle finally got used to the hard wooden bed, as long as she slept in Chen Qingtang's arms.
The last time Pei Yunle made a move, Chen Qingtang tried to refuse. She could only shake her head weakly, then write through her tears: [You're bullying me]
Pei Yunle was no longer the pitiful girl from before. She coiled around Chen Qingtang's soft body like a snake, coaxing her, "I know you can't speak. How about this: when you can't take it anymore, kiss me, and I'll understand."
Chen Qingtang believed her. With the last of her strength, she kissed Pei Yunle.
Pei Yunle smiled and asked, "Is this a reward for being good?"
Mute Chen Qingtang was so angry she wanted to yell at her.

Pei Yunle had a condition the doctor called weather syndrome. Whenever it rained, she became unbearably sensitive to the cold, no matter the season or temperature. She needed something soft and warm, and nothing suited her better than Chen Qingtang.
"My feet tread through desolation, beneath this rain I loathe. Only your touch of green shelters me."
Here's a preview of my next book: "The Frail Omega Was Burned After I Used Her Pheromones"
Blurb:
Shen Zhiwei had always believed that meeting He Jinye was a gift from fate.
That rainy night, a soaked, pale, fragile Omega fainted in front of her door. Her snow-white skin gleamed coldly in the lamplight, like an expensive piece of porcelain abandoned by its owner. Shen Zhiwei took her in, heart aching, and cared for her tenderly.
He Jinye had "lost her memory." She was sweet and dependent, with eyes full of nothing but Shen Zhiwei.
When the Omega trembled in agony in her arms from a mysterious illness, her cool eyes glimmering with a dazed, watery light, her whole body nearly melting into a puddle of spring water, she forced broken whimpers through her teeth: "P-please..."
Her tearful voice begged for a temporary mark, and Shen Zhiwei blushed, her heart softening.
She gave He Jinye a mark, and gave her all of her heart without reservation. They spent a blissful time together, and Shen Zhiwei used every connection and resource at her disposal to search for He Jinye's family and a cure for her illness.
So when He Jinye's family finally found her, Shen Zhiwei was genuinely happy for her. She thought, as He Jinye had said, that they would soon have a future together.
Until she heard He Jinye say to someone else, in a cold tone she'd never heard before, "If only a fated mate's [REDACTED] could cure my illness, why would I have spent these past few months putting on an act with her? It's ridiculous."
At that moment, Shen Zhiwei's world collapsed into silence.
From their first meeting on that rainy night to every trusting embrace, from the pain of He Jinye's attacks to their sweet marking, it had all been a carefully calculated act.
He Jinye's illness had never been incurable. The only thing that could cure her just happened to be Shen Zhiwei herself.
Shen Zhiwei silently let go and ended this farce, as if she'd never known He Jinye at all.
Later, He Jinye had everything she could want and her illness was under control, yet every night she was tormented by the pain of losing that familiar scent. At last, she understood: what she'd schemed to get wasn't medicine, but a love that tore her heart and soul apart.
He Jinye found her former lover again. Those once-cool eyes were now filled with tears, while a nearly frenzied obsession burned deep in her pupils.
She buried her head beside He Jinye's neck, her voice trembling slightly.
"Just let me die in your hands. At least then, the last thing I smell... will still be your scent."

🧋 🧋 What to do with Chapter 50, I want to read the original version
The two main characters are so cute, so cute! Although Qingtang cannot speak, he is also a very lively person. I can imagine him biting his lower lip that was slightly raised due to patience after eating the food cooked by Xiao Pei, and then looking at Xiao Pei's eyes and showing his thumbs up. Oh my god, these two are so cute, so cute!!!
Teacher, please promise me to write 100 extra chapters. I can help you pluck all the beans in the world [Rose]
The author's routine is a bit advanced [Glasses]
I'm going to make a new side story😋, when can I change the locked chapter 🙏
A sweet story, a bit like Shen Congwen's "Border Town", very enjoyable.
