--Quirky, justice-loving, straightforward woman x aloof, contrary, secretly passionate man
Si Shui is a corpse retriever in the Celestial River.
When a once-in-a-century flood struck, she single-handedly rescued people until her eyes rolled back. At last, under everyone's gaze, she kicked her legs out and died of exhaustion.
She became a pitiful, dark, crawling water ghost.
The other water ghosts urged her to find someone to take her place as a drowned ghost, so she could be reincarnated. Si Shui said, "Oh, so all the corpses I used to fish out were dragged underwater by you water ghosts?"
The water ghosts stared at her, bewildered. "Aren't you a water ghost now, too?"
Si Shui smiled. "Even if I'm not human anymore, I won't hurt ordinary people."
If she couldn't be reincarnated, so be it. Si Shui returned to her old job and became the first great water ghost to rescue people and retrieve corpses from underwater.
Two hundred years later, her ordinary days of retrieving corpses changed beyond recognition.
Someone fell out of the sky and landed in the Celestial River.
That's right, he came crashing down from the heavens!
By pure chance, he landed on Si Shui, who was running an underwater black market, leaving her dizzy and her ghostly soul drifting.
She grabbed him by the scruff. "Where did you come from, you filthy thing?!"
Su Qingzhou was blowing bubbles, on the verge of drowning. His handsome face was like a dew-kissed narcissus, and Si Shui couldn't tear her eyes away.
Wait, she's a great water ghost, not a great pervert!
Guided by the principle that saving one life is better than building a seven-story pagoda, Si Shui put all her strength into pushing Su Qingzhou ashore and guarded him day and night for three days.
Su Qingzhou woke up.
With his cool, watery eyes, he stared at Si Shui, whose head poked halfway out of the river. "Thank you."
Si Shui was shocked. "You can see me!"
Su Qingzhou said, "Yes. You've been dead for two hundred years."
He asked, "Why don't you reincarnate?"
Si Shui stammered, unable to give him a clear answer.
Without waiting for one, Su Qingzhou left her a translucent, wave-shaped jade pendant, opened a misty paper umbrella, and walked away.
All rivers and waterways in the world are connected. Si Shui followed him underwater for over a month, secretly admiring the beauty and secretly mooning over him.
After watching him for many days, she thought she might have noticed that he was terribly afraid of water...
"You've been following me for so long. What do you want?"
The umbrella tilted, blocking the shimmering moonlight. Su Qingzhou crouched by the river and looked down at Si Shui's blue-purple face. "Little water ghost, would you like to have a body again?"
"If you do, come with me."
