A Fallen Imperial Clanswoman's Comeback Diary (Qing Dynasty)

Aisin Gioro Jiarou is the great-granddaughter of the Qing dynasty's founding emperor. By family ties, Kangxi is her first cousin once removed, and Yongzheng is her older cousin.

But setting family ties aside, in practical terms, she is merely the daughter of a sixth-rank official in the Imperial Clan Court.

Other imperial clan women wear fine silks and have silver and gold to spare. Jiarou, on the other hand, is frugal and keeps track of how her father's monthly salary can feed and clothe the whole family while still letting them live with some dignity.

The women in the household spend all day worrying about expenses, while Jiarou's father declares, "To be content with poverty is the true bearing of a learned gentleman."

Jiarou is just an ordinary person who transmigrated from modern times. She doesn't want to be a learned gentleman so poor he can't afford a thing. She just wants to be a worldly person with plenty of silver to spend.

In the forty-seventh year of Kangxi's reign, her family began looking for a husband for her. Knowing what she wanted, her mother made her father promise to find her a son-in-law from a wealthy family.

A few days later, someone came to propose marriage. Jiarou sneaked a look. He was a tall, thin scholar, more handsome than her father and earning a better salary, too.

After making some inquiries, she heard he wasn't the kind of true scholar who was poor as a church mouse.

Her mother said happily, "This scholar seems like a good match. She should marry him!"
