The Entire Capital Regrets After the Young General’s Death in Battle

Xiao Biehe, the general's eldest son, was a gifted scholar and a valiant warrior. His father took him to the battlefield at the age of seven, and he had never lost a battle. In Liang, he was known as the Little God of War.

Folk tales portrayed him as a heavenly deity, yet no commoner ever dared approach him for so much as a word. The servants in his household feared offending the eldest young master and avoided him.

His father was strict with him, punishing even the slightest displeasure severely. When Xiao Biehe was fifteen, he was forced to kneel in the snow for three days and nights while burning with a high fever, leaving him with a leg injury that made it difficult to walk whenever the weather turned cold.

His mother was gentle and refined, a true lady of good breeding. She was kind to the other children and the servants, but had never once smiled at him.

His younger brother resented him for stealing the spotlight and hated Xiao Biehe to the core.

Even the good husband the emperor had bestowed upon him, the Crown Prince, was no exception. A gentle and elegant gentleman, he had grown up alongside Xiao Biehe. Yet because he feared Xiao Biehe might one day slip beyond his control, he wanted him dead.

Just then, heavy snow buried the city as Yan invaded Liang's border.

The general's household troops had been redeployed, and reinforcements were nowhere in sight. Keeping the gates shut and defending the city offered at least a sliver of hope. Opening them to meet the enemy meant certain death.

The Crown Prince, Xiao Biehe's betrothed, knew the battle was doomed to be lost. He brought an imperial decree and threatened the lives of everyone's entire clan to force Xiao Biehe to open the gates. He would sacrifice an entire city's population if it meant Xiao Biehe would die.

The flames of war raged for three nights. For the first time, the undefeated young general, Liang's God of War, was pushed to his limits, but he still turned the tide and saved the lives of everyone in the city.

Yet when reinforcements finally arrived three days later, delayed by the emperor and the Crown Prince, the land outside the city was strewn with corpses. The young general was nowhere to be found.

Liang's brilliant young God of War had died in that battle, just as everyone had wanted.

-

The Crown Prince, always cold-blooded and adept at disguising his true feelings, regretted it. He drank himself into a stupor night after night, reliving his younger days with Xiao Biehe, and searched frantically for Xiao Biehe's corpse.

The emperor knelt without rising before the imperial tombs of his ancestors, repenting for personally destroying a rare talent.

The younger brother who had hated him clutched his brother's portrait through the night and went to the places his brother had visited, refusing to let anyone speak ill of him. The general blamed himself for being too harsh with his exceptional eldest son. His wife cried until her hair turned white overnight.

The household servants were overcome with grief. The eldest young master, so pure and radiant, like a deity, had always been right in front of them, yet they had never dared look up at him.

The people of the capital and everyone at court waited for the young general to return.

No one ever saw Xiao Biehe again.

Until one year later, when Liang was defeated by Yan once more.

The emperor of Liang, the Crown Prince, the old general, and others were taken prisoner and "invited" to a banquet in the enemy kingdom.

There they saw Yan's new emperor, famed for his capricious temper and vicious eccentricity. Seated beside him was the empress whom he had supposedly married with a grand procession stretching ten miles, scattering gold leaves throughout the imperial city.

It was none other than Xiao Biehe, the young general who had died in battle for Liang.

But the other man's expression and demeanor were utterly indifferent, as if he no longer knew them.

Yan's new emperor, Lu Guanyan, looked thrilled. "I should thank you for being so blind. You let me get such a wonderful empress!"

-

When the gates of a barren city on Liang's border were breached, Lu Guanyan, who had not yet murdered his brother and father to seize the throne, happened to pass through. There he saw a... very beautiful corpse.

The corpse had the bloodline of the Wuyi, a people thought to be extinct. A drop of their heart's blood could bring the dead back to life, but doing so would bind the two together for life.

Lu Guanyan, a little madman who enjoyed killing and cared nothing for his own life, had one powerful thought: he wanted to bring this beautiful corpse back to life and play with him. Wake him, then tear open his wounds and "torment" him into madness.

He never expected the beauty to wake without remembering anything, not even his own name.

Faced with this peerlessly beautiful man, aloof and bewildered, the little madman suddenly couldn't bear to torment him. He searched the world for rare medicinal ingredients to treat the man's wounds and leg injury. For the first time, it seemed his own life had something to look forward to.

Later, the beauty's wounds healed, and his long, elegant legs could walk freely even in the cold of winter. The little madman lied that he was the beauty's lover, pledged to him for life. He tricked the great beauty into marrying him and sharing his bed.

Life was blissful.

One day, Lu Guanyan suddenly thought, why not destroy that equally corrupt, rotten country and avenge his beautiful elder brother?

He never expected those rotten people to covet his beautiful elder brother first.

[Reader's Guide and Content Warnings]

1. An aloof, gentle, beautiful, strong, tragic receiving partner x a lovestruck, cunning little madman of a pursuer who only wants to sleep with him. Both are virgins. Mutual redemption.

2. The receiving partner has no feelings for his betrothed. The betrothed is one-sidedly torn between love and hate, and can't have him. A regret-and-redemption arc.

3. Everyone is unhinged. Very melodramatic. The receiving partner is frail and often gets injured and coughs up blood early on. There is amnesia. Everyone gets a regret-and-redemption arc, but none are forgiven.

4. The early plot is genuinely infuriating. The author has no brains and the schemes are childish make-believe. If you readers have any issues, please stop reading right away to avoid further distress. I hope you won't curse at my protagonists, or at me, sob. Everyone else is fair game.

5. The receiving partner becomes a slight heartthrob later, the unattainable ideal in everyone's heart.

6. The first few chapters move slowly, though it might get better later (or maybe not). The pursuing partner first appears in Chapter 5, and the two meet properly in Chapter 12.

7. The blurb doesn't mention a truly disgusting, fake-sweet adopted son and an especially nasty disciple. The side characters are even more detestable in the story than in the blurb. They're really nasty. The revenge-and-regret arc will be brutal, and there will be no tidy happy ending: not one person who hurt the receiving partner will survive unharmed. Everyone he meets after he "dies" is a good person.

Pre-Release 1: The Sickly Beauty with a Terminal Illness Is Targeted by an Evil God

Blurb:

The day Xue Xili was diagnosed with a terminal illness, he left the wealthy family he had never managed to fit into and found a quiet, beautiful place where no one lived, ready to spend the little time he had left on his own.

He never expected to find a neighbor there.

The man was handsome, long-haired, and quiet, but also a gentleman with good manners who could drive away evil spirits.

At first, Xue Xili had only politely asked if he would like to have tea together. To his surprise, the man showed up at his door every day at the same time to ask for tea, and helped Xue Xili with all sorts of things besides.

Xue Xili liked him well enough. Even if he was going to die, having a friend was nice.

Half a year passed, then a year. The illness the doctors said would kill him within six months had not worsened. It even seemed to be getting better.

Even more bafflingly, Xue Xili often saw a shadow in his room, on his bed, and on his body at night. But when he turned on the light and looked closely, there was nothing there.

Then his neighbor confessed that he had feelings for him and asked if they could try dating.

The man was handsome and considerate, with a tall build. When he drew near, his imposing presence made it seem impossible to refuse him.

Xue Xili had never had a boyfriend. In a moment of impulsiveness, he said yes.

After that, the man used the excuse of helping him ward off evil to naturally end up sharing his bed.

Then, when his boyfriend tentatively asked, Xue Xili thought that he was going to die anyway, so he had nothing to lose. He slept with him.

That night, half asleep, Xue Xili saw shadows all over the room. Every one of them was the man, coiling tightly around him and enveloping him.

The man lowered his hoarse voice and whispered, "I finally found you! This time, we'll never be apart again!"

Twenty years ago, the Xue family of the wealthy social circles lost their true young master. Although they found him again, the family had already come to treat the impostor as one of their own. By contrast, they were distant and cold toward the frail true young master who had returned.

They didn't even ask after him when he vanished for a year.

Then one day, a new servant cleaning the true young master's room found a medical report on his desk showing late-stage terminal cancer.

Everyone in the Xue family panicked.

Pre-Release 2: Turns Out I'm Not the Chosen One?

Blurb:

Yan Lanyi is the young master of the foremost immortal sect in the cultivation world. He is of noble birth and extraordinary talent. Wherever he goes, spiritual treasures and divine artifacts rush toward him. Even when he sleeps, his cultivation improves on its own. He ranks first on the beauty list of the Three Realms, and has been told that he is the chosen one of this world.

Yan Lanyi firmly believes that he is the chosen one.

Born free-spirited and devoted to freedom, Yan Lanyi often skips class and travels the world alone with his sword, making it his mission to uphold justice throughout the Three Realms. Countless evil spirits and demons have fallen to his blade.

He can be a little willful sometimes, too.

One day, he came across a wronged person and saved an unlucky fellow who had just watched his entire clan be slaughtered. On a whim, Yan Lanyi forcibly took the man, Xie Qiong, as his underling.

His underling was a taciturn man, but he let Yan Lanyi order him around and bully him. After avenging the blood feud against his clan, he willingly stayed by Yan Lanyi's side and served him.

As the "big brother," Yan Lanyi gave his underling plenty of things along with all the orders. It was his first time taking someone on, after all, so he tossed him all the magical artifacts, cultivation manuals, and pills he didn't want.

Yan Lanyi was very pleased to see his underling's cultivation soar, his progress second only to his own.

Yan Lanyi thought that now he had an underling, he should also build a harem.

But his usually loyal underling suddenly "rebelled," snatching every love interest Yan Lanyi had his eye on.

Yan Lanyi: ?

Come on, brother, just say you want them too! It's not like I wouldn't let you have them!

Later, Yan Lanyi was dragged back by his father to inherit the sect's leadership, while his underling Xie Qiong became the disciple of a highly respected immortal venerable. The two went their separate ways.

When Yan Lanyi next heard news of Xie Qiong, he learned that Xie Qiong had killed his own master. The immortal venerable had turned out to be a hypocrite, righteous in appearance but vile within, and was also Xie Qiong's last enemy.

Xie Qiong had already switched to the Path of Ruthlessness. Within just a few years, he had risen out of nowhere to the top of the cultivation rankings in the Three Realms. Though he was on the side of righteousness, his methods were more evil than those of demonic cultivators, and he had become the most feared figure in the cultivation world.

Just then, the System, which had been inactive for ages, told him it had made a mistake. Xie Qiong was the real chosen one.

Yan Lanyi was the foil villain in a comeback story about the chosen one. The chosen one always repaid every grudge, and he had bullied and mocked Xie Qiong when he was down, leaving Xie Qiong bitterly resentful. The next time they met, the chosen one would raise his sword to kill him.

Yan Lanyi, who had been arrogant and domineering for half his life: You mean the underling I bullied and bossed around is the chosen one, and now he's going to kill me?

Yan Lanyi, the proud genius and future sect leader of the greatest sect in the world, had never put up with such an insult. He immediately turned dark and went to pick a fight with the chosen one.

You ungrateful bastard! You don't say a word about all the good things I gave you, and I treated you like a brother. How dare you try to take everything I own?

But when Yan Lanyi angrily found the man, he saw Xie Qiong sitting alone on a mountaintop beneath the moon, looking forlorn and desolate. He was dressed in the same clothes he'd worn the day they parted, playing the white jade flute Yan Lanyi had once tossed to him because he didn't want it. At his waist hung the sachet Yan Lanyi had forced on him, woven with Yan Lanyi's hair to proclaim his status as the big brother.

Halfway through turning evil, Yan Lanyi was a little dazed.

Wait, did I get the wrong guy?

Aren't you supposed to be the cold-blooded chosen one who follows the Path of Ruthlessness?

The next moment, the sorrowful, lonely flute music stopped. Xie Qiong walked over, his gaze tender and full of love, pulled Yan Lanyi tightly into his arms, and kissed him fiercely.

Yan Lanyi: ???

-

The day Xie Qiong's entire clan was slaughtered for its treasures, he met a red-clad figure with stunning features as radiant as jade. The other man reached out to him and saved him from disaster, then gave him all sorts of treasures that other people would pay a fortune for, as if they cost nothing.

Xie Qiong had never met anyone so dazzling. Every moment he spent with Yan Lanyi made his heart stir a little more.

Yet Yan Lanyi noticed nothing. Every time Xie Qiong's small feelings threatened to get out of hand, Yan Lanyi would take the initiative to throw himself into Xie Qiong's arms under the pretext that they were sworn brothers.

There were many people around Yan Lanyi who were outstanding in both background and ability. They all said Xie Qiong was delusional and told him to stay away from Yan Lanyi. Xie Qiong, too, felt he was unworthy.

Xie Qiong left Yan Lanyi. To swiftly wipe out his enemies and avenge his family, and to force himself to forget Yan Lanyi, he abandoned his former cultivation path and switched to the Path of Ruthlessness.

By the time he reached its end, he realized he couldn't forget his feelings at all.

Whenever he closed his eyes, Yan Lanyi filled his entire world.

A naturally flirtatious, arrogant, genius villain and breathtaking beauty of a receiving partner x a devoted chosen-one underling pursuer
