"You are a dodder vine flower."
"You are weak. You must rely on the protection of powerful men to survive in the cultivation world."
Dodder vine spirits have soft bodies and a natural fragrance. Bad people often try to capture them and use them as cultivation furnaces.
Tu Baisu remembered his grandpa the clan leader's advice. After coming down from the mountain, he asked everyone he met, "Can you protect me?"
Tu Baisu was fair and delicate, with a sweet, girlish look. Everyone who saw him was captivated and rushed to offer him protection.
But whenever danger came, the people who had promised to protect him were the first to get beaten down, or to run away without looking back.
Tu Baisu pouted, gave one little whimpering punch that smashed all the bad guys' heads, then went looking for the next person said to be powerful. This time he found the Sword Venerable, known as the foremost figure of the Immortal Dao. Cold and aloof, he showed no regard for others. Tu Baisu asked softly, "Can you protect me?"
The Sword Venerable glanced at him, then turned his head and pretended nothing was amiss. "I can."
Then, before the bad guys who wanted to capture Tu Baisu even arrived, the Sword Venerable was ambushed by his own enemies and badly wounded, left lying on the ground unable to get up.
Forced to whimper as he helped the Sword Venerable deal with his enemies, Tu Baisu fled in the middle of the night and went looking for someone else. He gently knocked on the Peacock Demon Venerable's palace door, his big eyes sparkling as he asked, "Can you protect me?"
The Peacock Demon Venerable let him into the palace, treated him to fine food and wine every day, and gave him lots of beautiful jewelry and clothes.
Tu Baisu was overjoyed, thinking he would live this way forever.
Then, one day, the Demon Venerable's natural enemy came looking for him. The Demon Venerable fled in a panic, leaving Tu Baisu alone once again.
At last, Tu Baisu went to find the Demon Venerable, whose reputation was the worst but who was said to be very powerful. "Can you protect me?"
The Demon Venerable was languid and unconcerned, looking down on everyone. "Protect you? What could be easier? Little flower, from now on, you can stay with me."
Tu Baisu was delighted, thinking he had finally found a home.
But he didn't know that the Demon Venerable not only had a terrible reputation, but also a foul temper. Every day, he was either starting a war between immortals and demons or being hunted by the righteous cultivators.
Unable to take it any longer, Tu Baisu let out a whimper and punched the ground so hard it shook three times, frightening every immortal, demon, and monster. "Hmph! They're all too weak. Not one of them can protect me!"
The Heavenly Dao, sound asleep and enjoying a pleasant dream, was jolted awake. It took human form and appeared behind him. "Then how about you let me try?"
A universally adored dodder vine spirit, the bottom.
The author can't write about beauty, so just assume the bottom is peerlessly beautiful.
Should be very short.
(A search on Baidu says another name for dodder vine is "murder vine" (rests chin in hand))
