From Beat Cop to Crime-Solving Expert

Chen Ran grew up in a Taoist temple. She was strong and skilled in combat. After graduating, rather than taking a job related to her field of study, she became a local police officer at Lianshan Police Station. She had an exceptional memory, knew the law, and learned quickly. Within a month on the job, she had become the station’s best young officer. She handled all kinds of station business with ease, caught several wanted criminals who had been on the run, and caught the attention of the head of the district criminal investigation squad. Not long afterward, a task force investigating a major case requested officers from a subordinate police station. Chen Ran was selected and joined the 7.22 Task Force. Chen Ran assumed she would return to her old post once her temporary assignment ended. When she saw that she had packed her bags, the district leaders quickly sent someone to stop her. As if they would let a criminal investigation prodigy with both brains and brawn go! And so the district criminal investigation squad gained an officer named Chen. At first, she was just Little Chen. Later, she became Captain Chen! A coming-of-age story about an expert investigator. The story begins at a police station in the late nineties, and offers a grounded take on criminal investigations.
