A Laid-Back Life Preparing for the Imperial Exams

Qin Wenjia died from overwork in his previous life. After he transmigrates, all he wants is to lie flat.

His family owns dozens of acres of ancestral farmland. His parents and grandparents are all alive, his brothers get along, his sisters are close, and his parents dote on him.

His family has excellent values.

After becoming a ten-year-old child, Qin Wenjia has no worries about food or clothing. Believing that he has been given another life to experience, he just wants to take things as they come.

Even when his family urges him to take the imperial examinations.

Fine, he'll take them casually, just to stop them nagging.

But he scrapes through the prefectural examination, scrapes through the provincial examination, and scrapes through the metropolitan examination too...

*

Each time, Qin Wenjia crams at the last minute and muddles through the exams, somehow landing a petty county magistrate post.

Qin Wenjia takes up his post in a laid-back fashion.

He keeps to his easygoing, middle-of-the-road approach, but somehow, before he's even served two years, he gets promoted by accident.

Qin Wenjia: "???"

*

Somehow, he gets promoted from a local post to one in the capital. The laid-back young man hates the office infighting there, so he asks to be demoted and sent back to the provinces to enjoy a peaceful life.

But less than two years later, he somehow gets promoted again.

Qin Wenjia: "..."

Officials throughout the court praise him to no end, and the emperor holds him in the highest regard, calling him a rare and worthy minister.

Qin Wenjia: "???"

Have they misunderstood something about him?

Or is he lying flat the wrong way?
