The Canary Is Acting Strange (Short Story)

Synopsis

Ke Yu had never met a canary who came knocking to ask to be kept, until he met Qiu Junzhe.

At an ordinary gathering of rich second-generation heirs, Qiu Junzhe was like a white dove that had wandered by chance into a world of wine and women. He was dressed like a student, couldn't hold his liquor, and was being pawed at by the people around him.

Ke Yu could guess his backstory: a father who drank too much, a sick mother, a younger sister in school, and a life in pieces.

Qiu Junzhe raised his eyes, looking pitiful. "Young Master Ke, please take me in."

Ke Yu took a canary.

For the first time in all these years.

Maybe it was because he was so taken with Qiu Junzhe's face, so taken that when his own canary pinned him to the bed and took what he wanted, he could still lie to himself.

It's fine. He's the sugar daddy. He's supposed to lie back and enjoy it.

One night, with his butt still sore, Ke Yu lay in bed scrolling through his phone.

A Zhihu question: How far would you go to win the person you love?

The top-voted answer was the first one, posted by a user called "Ke Ke Is Mine."

Answer: Thanks for the invite. I guess I'd pretend to be a canary, let him keep me, and then move in with him with every excuse to be there.

Looking at the identical IP address, then at Qiu Junzhe, his "canary," who had just come out of the bathroom drying his hair and was now reaching into the bedside table for a condom, Young Master Ke fell into deep thought.
