A Springtime Fling

Second Chance Romance + Childhood Sweethearts + A Long-Standing Scheme

Chen Shanyu was the daughter of Xu Jingyan's family driver. Thanks to her employers, she attended the best elementary and middle schools, only to be sent back to her proper place in high school.

Xu Jingyan continued at an expensive international high school, while Chen Shanyu went to an ordinary public school next door. People around them joked that the two schools were where future bosses and their employees would ever come closest in their lives.

It was the first fork in their paths. After that, there would be many more.

He inherited the family business and became one of those evil capitalists, while she became exactly what everyone expected: a cheap worker in an office building.

They met again when the company Chen Shanyu worked for was acquired. He was surrounded by admirers, while she was still an insignificant junior employee, able only to pretend she didn't know him from across the crowd.

But no one knew that they had once kissed recklessly at the end of an alley like young lovers, shared the same skewer of cheap food at a street stall, and left their marks on each other in a villa as they gave themselves over to passion.

Setting aside the vast gulf between their social positions, they had also been childhood sweethearts.

After the acquisition meeting ended, a torrential rain began to fall. As Chen Shanyu left work, a black Lincoln blocked her path.

"Work's over, and you're still pretending not to know me?" he demanded coldly.

Chen Shanyu wished she could put eight hundred meters between them. "I know you, but we're not close."

"Childhood sweethearts, and we're still not close?"

"We're not close." She braced herself and tried to distance herself from him.

Yet he placed his hand in the middle of the leather seat and tapped his fingers meaningfully. The warm air and familiar car seat stirred memories she couldn't suppress. They had once abandoned all restraint there, leaving a mess in their wake.

"So this doesn't count as being close, either." His voice was low and faintly mocking, his gaze fixed on her.

Core theme: Perseverance will eventually bring results.
