Everyday Life of Wealth in Lin'an

Shanqing is the daughter of a bricklayer in Dawaxiang, Lin'an. Life in Lin'an is expensive, and to support the family, her mother has to take in laundry while her older sister gets up at dawn to sell flowers.

Shanqing is also eager to find work. She has her eye on a kitchen helper's job at the Princess's residence. She has heard that the Princess has only one son, a principled and ambitious young man who has no palate to speak of and is easy to please when it comes to food. It sounds like a cushy job with little to worry about.

But just as Shanqing finally manages to secure a position at the Princess's residence after all her trials, her flower-selling sister catches the Emperor's eye and is suddenly made a consort, winning his favor.

Shanqing has no idea what her sister said to the Emperor, but somehow her job turns into a marriage proposal.
