Luo Tang has an ordinary face, an ordinary build, and average abilities. He's honest to a fault, wooden, and dull, with no presence at all in a crowd.
After living an ordinary life for twenty years, he learns that he's actually the real young master of the prominent Luo family in S City. Before he can even get used to calling his biological parents Mom and Dad, he's informed that he's to marry into the powerful Sheng family.
At a banquet, the Luo family's beloved fake young master maliciously pushes him toward the Shengs, telling him to meet the person he'll be marrying.
Luo Tang looks at the Sheng family's three young masters.
The eldest, Sheng Heyan, is as cold as ice. His frigid gaze sweeps over Luo Tang, and the pressure he radiates grows even more oppressive. His disgust is plain to see.
The second, Sheng Chengxiao, has a sinister, violent gaze and a volatile temper. Upon hearing about the arranged marriage, he kicks the bodyguard beside him to the ground.
The youngest, Sheng Liye, is a flirt with a string of scandals. The little beauty nestled obediently in his arms traces circles on his chest, her eyes full of warning, as if she wants to tear Luo Tang apart.
Either he can live in fear every day, suffering cold-shoulder treatment, or get beaten at the drop of a hat, or spend every day fighting with his partner's lovers. Luo Tang clutches the edge of his clothes and swallows nervously, looking utterly timid and pathetic.
Father Qin says kindly, "Xiao Tang, spend a few months getting to know them. In the end, you can marry the one you get along with best."
Luo Tang tosses and turns all night. He can't bring himself to play the field, and after much thought, decides that marrying the eldest at least means he won't be in physical danger. So before the wedding, he'll focus on earning his favor and building a foundation for their relationship. That way, married life won't be quite so miserable.
It's a great plan, except the ice-cold eldest brother doesn't budge, and the others keep interfering.
Luo Tang goes to deliver some pastries he made himself. Sheng Chengxiao corners him at the turn in the stairs, scoops up some cream with a finger, and smears it on his lips, rubbing it in slowly.
"You look honest, but you've got big ambitions, don't you? You know Big Brother will take over the Qin family, so you're throwing yourself at him."
Luo Tang finally works up the courage to invite someone swimming. Sheng Liye comes along too, grabbing the person who keeps trying to dodge him.
"Big Brother likes people who are good at swimming. Can't swim? I'll teach you. Lift your leg higher and put your arms around me."
Luo Tang keeps trying to win over the eldest Sheng. Several months pass, and there's no sign that the man is thawing. Thinking about having to put up with that oppressive atmosphere for most of his life, Luo Tang switches to getting closer to Sheng Chengxiao.
The man who is always so composed finally can't take it anymore.
The eldest Sheng presses Luo Tang onto a recliner, his gaze icy. "Who do you think you're going to marry besides me?"
The second Sheng smiles with smug certainty. "Obviously me. Didn't you hear? Tangtang confessed to me."
The third Sheng rests his arm on the window frame and looks at the two of them. "I think I forgot to tell you: Tangtang and I have already slept together."
Luo Tang: Don't make things up! Not that kind of sleeping, and I didn't confess to you. Maybe we should just call off this arranged marriage.
Eldest, second, and third Sheng: Say that again.
Luo Tang: I'm just an honest guy, waah!
