The first year of the war
Lin Yu stood in the command room and opened the video message he had just received.
In the video, Qin Zheng wore a bloodstained uniform. He softly called Lin Yu's name, then said with a determined gaze, "Lin Yu, don't be sad. We'll win."
Half a year later.
Signal Tower B135 on the Galactic Defense Line needed urgent repairs.
Lin Yu looked at his teammates, who were about to leave, his eyes stinging.
As Meng Ran stepped aboard the rescue ship, he smiled brightly. "Lin Yu, hang in there. We'll win."
The second year of the war.
The First Legion fleet was ambushed.
Huo Yao put the wounded Lin Yu into the last escape pod. As she sealed the hatch, she told him, "Lin Yu, the Federation needs you. We will win this war."
The third year of the war.
Now commander-in-chief of the First Legion, Lin Yu calmly spoke over the terminal before the final battle. "Everyone, we will win."
At last, a three-year campaign came to an end.
The Galactic Steel Defense Line was rebuilt, and the Federation entered an era of peace.
Every student in the 2582 class of the First Military Academy's Combat Command program had died in battle.
As explosions continued behind him, in the moment before his death, images from his days at the military academy appeared before Lin Yu's eyes.
Back then, he and Qin Zheng had just finished combat training. They lay on the floor, talking about their dreams for the future.
"Lin Yu," Qin Zheng called his name, still breathing hard after their intense sparring. "Which legion do you want to join after graduation?"
"The First Legion, of course." Back then, he had answered without hesitation. "I want to become the youngest commander-in-chief."
When he opened his eyes again, Lin Yu heard Qin Zheng say once more, "If you're the commander-in-chief, I'll pilot a battleship and take your orders."
Lin Yu's tears slipped helplessly from the corners of his eyes.
Thank goodness. Qin Zheng was still alive.
