Xu Qingshu and Qi Yinghuai's marriage was an accident.
Her father was on the verge of bankruptcy, and she was supposed to marry Qi Mo, the heir to the Qi Group.
But just as she and Qi Mo were about to register their marriage, Qi Mo's second uncle, Qi Yinghuai, showed up with a lawyer and some documents. He said to her, "Your grandfather asked me to come. Will you marry me instead?"
Xu Qingshu looked at Qi Mo.
Qi Yinghuai said, "Don't mind him."
Qi Mo protested angrily, "Wait, Second Uncle, she's my fiancee. We're about to get married. How can you suddenly come and steal..."
"Qi Mo," Qi Yinghuai said.
Qi Mo reflexively lowered his head. "Yes. I'll do as you say."
-
As they registered their marriage, Xu Qingshu could barely make out Qi Yinghuai's face. His figure beside her seemed shrouded in mist, as distant as the horizon.
In the car after they finished registering, she thought for a moment, then said softly, "Mr. Qi, I'm leaving town to film today. I won't tell anyone about our relationship while I'm away, so you can rest assured."
Qi Yinghuai's faint gaze settled on her elegant face. After a couple of seconds, he said, "We still have to spend our wedding night. Leave for your trip tomorrow."
Xu Qingshu froze for a moment, then lowered her eyes and nodded. "All right."
-
Xu Qingshu was having a hard time in the entertainment industry. One day, she was forced to dine with a group of bosses at an opera house. One of them asked with a leering grin, "You're an actress too, aren't you? Can you sing opera? Give us a little performance to liven things up."
Xu Qingshu was about to refuse when Mr. Qi, who had been silent at the head of the table, spoke in an unhurried voice. "Qingshu, come sit over here."
Everyone fell silent at once.
Xu Qingshu sat down beside him.
Qi Yinghuai poured tea for her himself and said as casually as if nothing were amiss, "We're honoring the ancestors tomorrow. Remember to wear the jade bangle Mom gave you."
Xu Qingshu's brows twitched. She hadn't expected him to make their relationship public like this, especially when she'd asked him just the day before when he would be free to get a divorce with her.
-
Qi Yinghuai had never once considered divorce, not since the first time he saw her.
The young woman stood uneasily beside Qi Mo. The color gradually drained from her clear, elegant face, and her slender figure looked ready to collapse at any moment. Tears glimmered in her eyes, appearing and disappearing, but she stubbornly bit her lip and fought them back, her long lashes trembling again and again.
She stirred his desire to protect her.
