Shen Qiuyan considered himself an ordinary office drone, working an ordinary job and earning an ordinary living. Then one day, while visiting his uncle’s farm, Shen Qiuyan, an NPC in Earth Online, had an epiphany: in life, what matters most is enjoying yourself!

Happily quitting his job, Shen Qiuyan bought the farm and decided to lie flat, spending his days traveling and enjoying a leisurely life.

But just after he bought it, a meteor struck Earth, bringing countless unknown viruses with it. Vast numbers of living things were infected, and the apocalypse began.

The good news: the farm could move. The bad news: it was bound to his little dog.

The good news: his awakened ability let him communicate with animals. The bad news: he could communicate, but only a little.

After much thought, Shen Qiuyan decided that although things had turned out quite a bit differently from what he’d expected, it didn’t seem to stop him from lying flat. In fact, with a mobile farm, traveling was even more convenient.

While others fought zombies and fled for their lives, Shen Qiuyan picnicked across vast grasslands.

While others schemed against one another in their bases, Shen Qiuyan foraged in boundless forests.

He fished beneath blue skies and over turquoise seas, and brewed tea with snow atop lofty peaks. Every so often, he traded supplies with people he happened to meet.

He thought this peaceful routine would go on forever, until a prophecy began circulating in the bases: once humanity passed the apocalypse’s trials, the Holy Son would come riding the tides, bringing seeds of hope from the pure land to save everyone.

Curious, Shen Qiuyan began gathering information about the Holy Son, intending to meet this legendary savior.

They said the Holy Son lived in the only pure land untouched by the virus. Shen Qiuyan looked back at his own virus-free farm in a pocket dimension.

They said all beasts bowed before the Holy Son’s majestic presence. Shen Qiuyan looked back at the whole group of obedient, adorable, fluffy creatures with special abilities he had tamed on his farm.

They said the Holy Son could tear open the sky screen and rain down food. Shen Qiuyan looked back at the base workers using the farm’s teleportation function to transport grain, pouring it in a steady stream through the transport passage.

Something’s not right. Why does this sound more and more like me?

Bonus preview: Working as a Double Agent at the Infected Research Institute

Su Qin was an office drone, one who was passionate about making money.

To earn more, he often worked two jobs at once.

This time, for instance, he had joined the Changming Research Institute. One job was as an E-rank researcher there; the other was as a spy for the institute’s rival.

The test subjects at the institute had unknown origins, and most of the employees were desperate criminals, so Su Qin had no qualms about being a double agent.

He just wanted to coast along, collect both stipends, and leave when his contract ended.

But during an experiment involving an infected entity, something went wrong, and Su Qin became the only person at the institute who could approach an S+-rank contaminant.

The contaminant’s whispers filled his ears, while the research institute’s surveillance followed him like a shadow.

Su Qin could only keep his secret identity under wraps as he navigated between strange test subjects and the institute’s higher-ups.

To make matters worse, bizarre incidents began to occur, and death descended upon the infected research institute.

Staff members died in mysterious ways, test subjects vanished into thin air, and one disaster after another heralded an even greater catastrophe.

The contaminant deep underground whispered in Su Qin’s ear: “Let me out. I’ll become your strength, protect you, and help you.”

Meanwhile, the institute’s higher-ups wanted to throw Su Qin into an isolation chamber and turn him into a valuable test subject, too.

The office drone was about to lose both stipends, and he was furious. His choice was to raise his knife and join the troublemaking crowd.

“If I can’t keep my stipends, I’ll cut you all down.”
