Some time ago, gossip swept through the company: a general manager was about to be parachuted in from the group headquarters. The only information anyone had was that his surname was Liang, the Liang of the Liang Group.

Ning Xiang was not surprised. There was a nine-in-ten chance that the young master was still her high school classmate.

Over the years, Ning Xiang had been able to complete her studies smoothly thanks to the Liang family's generous support. To repay this kindness, when she graduated from university, she didn't even think twice, despite having plenty of options. She went straight to the Liang Group and devoted four diligent years of her youth to the company.

But when she confirmed that the person arriving was Liang Simo, she had to admit she had never imagined it would be him.

In Ning Xiang's memory, back in high school Liang Simo had been nothing more than his cousin Liang Siwei's sidekick.

Liang Siwei was every bit as impressive as his name suggested: exceptionally capable, tall and imposing, and very fond of showing off. Even at a private school full of the rich and powerful, he had status and got along with everyone.

Liang Simo, meanwhile, was used to following his cousin around, quiet and mild-mannered. With such a dazzling cousin as a comparison, he barely made an impression.

Later, Ning Xiang heard from classmates that it was the same at the Liang family. Liang Siwei was the most valued and highly anticipated one of their generation. As for Liang Simo, there weren't even any rumors about him being valued or looked down upon.

From the moment the rumors started, Ning Xiang never thought it could be anyone but Liang Siwei.

After all, everyone jokingly called that person the "crown prince."

The crown prince who had been parachuted in was polite and considerate, gentlemanly and warm, without the slightest air of superiority. With abilities as impressive as his looks, he won over every employee in the company in just two weeks. Everyone had nothing but praise for him, and the praise kept piling up.

Ning Xiang considered herself unable to resist Liang Simo's tremendous personal charm. As his assistant, she kept a very proper distance from him. Yet no matter how much she tried to pull away, Liang Simo would naturally draw the two of them closer. Gradually, Ning Xiang began to notice that there was something off about the way the crown prince looked at her.

Back in high school, Liang Simo had once confessed to Ning Xiang, and she had rejected him outright.

That day, Liang Simo smiled and told Ning Xiang it was all right. But when he got home and closed the door, he tore off his gentle mask. His eyes bloodshot, he kissed her photograph frantically. Ning Xiang, his Ning Xiang, how could she look down on him too!

Her indifference was a scar that would never heal.

Liang Simo was a self-serving man who always repaid a grudge. He had a plan to win her over and then abandon her.

Find Ning Xiang, pursue her, make her fall in love with him, then dump her without mercy.

The plan went perfectly, right up until Ning Xiang discovered it before he could take the final step.

"Are you going to break up with me?" she asked. "Liang Simo, so you don't like me after all?!"

Liang Simo thought about it for a long time. When he looked up, he saw the girl across from him with tears glistening in her eyes.

This was the perfect moment for revenge. She had completely fallen in love with him.

All he had to say was, Ning Xiang, I don't love you.

Who could have guessed that a man who seemed sweet on the outside but was black-hearted underneath would turn out to be such a hopeless romantic!

Reader's notes:

1. Both leads have only ever been with each other. The male lead is somewhat obsessive and extremely self-serving. He's not a good person. The gentle gentleman in the blurb is all an act, so don't expect him to be a good guy.

2. Tentatively a short novel, around 120,000 to 150,000 characters, maybe (?)

3. The male lead pursues the female lead throughout. This is not a groveling-after-the-wife story.
