Synopsis:
The Qingjue Immortal Sect takes the greatest pride in its Heartless Dao.
Xin Hesheng, carefully raised by the entire sect, is the current chosen successor of the Heartless Dao.
Everyone knows that Xin Hesheng is as cold as ice and has a heart harder than iron. Getting him to show even the slightest emotion is harder than surviving all twelve tribulations of ascension unscathed.
But the truth is, Xin Hesheng was born with an abundance of emotion. Having his feelings washed away several times has done no good at all.
Not wanting to disappoint his elders, he spends his days keeping a straight face and diligently playing the part of someone heartless. Only in the dead of night, alone in his room, does he drop his act and pour out his passionate feelings by...
Writing in his diary.
"My master praised my progress in cultivation today, hahahahahaha!"
"I gave a lesson to my junior brothers and sisters, and they all looked at me with admiration. It felt so good, hehe."
"When is this rotten Heartless Dao going to be destroyed? I really don't want to practice it anymore!"
One day, Xin Hesheng's elders entrust him with an incredibly difficult secret mission:
Go undercover in the Hehuan Sect, whose cultivation path is completely different from theirs.
The mission is dangerous. The slightest mistake could shatter his Dao heart.
But if he can come through the Hehuan Sect unscathed, then this little Heartless Dao will be no challenge at all.
After a few preparations, Xin Hesheng successfully infiltrates the Hehuan Sect.
Unfortunately, a slight mistake in his cover story leads the sect's people to misunderstand his background.
They keep pitying and encouraging him to cultivate hard, telling him not to feel inferior just because he came from a brothel.
Xin Hesheng can only give them a cold nod each time.
Overall, though, his undercover mission is going very smoothly.
He even gets an unexpected bonus.
At an inter-sect exchange event hosted by the Hehuan Sect, he meets a rising star.
His name is Chen Tongxu.
Chen Tongxu is cold, and so is his blade.
Xin Hesheng observes him in secret and is shocked to discover that Chen Tongxu wears the same icy expression all day long. He never changes it at all.
This is the hope of the Heartless Dao!
When the mission is over, Xin Hesheng will bring Chen Tongxu back to the immortal sect. His elders will be thrilled, and the pressure on him will surely ease considerably.
After meeting Chen Tongxu, Xin Hesheng's diary finally has a clear subject to focus on.
After carefully testing the waters in all sorts of ways, Xin Hesheng manages to get closer to Chen Tongxu. The day he can take Chen Tongxu back to the immortal sect and enjoy a carefree life of his own is drawing nearer and nearer.
The problem is, before Xin Hesheng can finish laying the groundwork, Chen Tongxu accidentally sees his diary.
Every entry is plain and unadorned:
"I can't believe there's someone like Chen Tongxu who suits me so perfectly. I need to find a way to get him to come back to my sect with me."
"Chen Tongxu, how can I live without you? Without you, my future is utterly dark!"
"Chen Tongxu, Chen Tongxu, Chen Tongxu..."
"..."
After staring at each other in silence for a while, Xin Hesheng calmly closes his diary. "I never write in a diary. Do you believe me?"
The next moment, Chen Tongxu grabs him.
Looking at him, Chen Tongxu's usually still eyes burn like flames. "I've known how you feel for a long time."
Chen Tongxu: "I'll be your cultivation partner."
Xin Hesheng: "?!" It's a misunderstanding! All of it! He can explain!
Theme: Cultivate diligently.
