Synopsis

[Childhood Friends / Secret Crush / Two Top Students / Campus Romance]

Blurb:

At the Hundred-Day Pledge Rally, Xie Wangyan, the top student in the year, took the stage to give a speech. His cool gaze lingered on Ying Jiaruo for a few seconds, as if he were displeased, while everyone else seemed invisible to him.

A classmate beside Ying Jiaruo asked curiously, “Did you and Xie Wangyan have a falling-out?”

Ying Jiaruo looked toward the stage. Beneath the blazing sun, Xie Wangyan wore the most ordinary high school uniform, yet he still stood out as the brightest presence in the crowd.

She calmly replied, “No. I don’t know him well.”

Later.

The young man, admired by everyone for his noble and untainted character, trapped her against the bathroom wall. “Who is it you don’t know well?”

Traces of water slid down his taut V-line, then slowly evaporated in the heated air. Ying Jiaruo’s gaze darted around. “Not you, anyway. You’re so hot, I’m practically melting.”

She didn’t know the proper, uniform-clad Xie Wangyan who gave speeches at school, but she knew this private side of him all too well.

Xie Wangyan chuckled beside her ear, then drawled lazily, “We energetic high school boys are always like this in the morning.”

Everyone at school knew that the two best-looking students at No. 1 High had wildly different personalities and clashed badly. The rumors grew more and more outrageous, until people were even saying they were allergic to breathing the same air.

But in private...

Ying Jiaruo woke up at Xie Wangyan’s house every day.

In Ying Jiaruo’s world, Xie Wangyan never says anything he doesn’t mean.

Strangers in public, thoroughly familiar in private / Childhood friends secretly dating behind the world’s back / Both leads are over 18 / Romance after the college entrance exam

Spoiled, capricious heiress vs. perfect gentleman with a dark side

A campus writing exercise.

This is my first proper campus romance. The male lead as a teenager should still be dog-like, competitive, and possessive.

Theme: No one is born ordinary. The light simply hasn’t reached you yet.

Finished Reads and Reviews ^_^

I like BG, happy endings, chaste male leads, and completed stories. I prefer 1v1; if a story doesn't fit, I'll say so. For five-star books, see my other list: all five stars.

Give BG a Try, It's Delicious 202X

Some ongoing or completed novels I've really enjoyed so far this year, 2024. Five stars: a fantastic read from beginning to end. Four stars: a strong start but a weak finish, or a lackluster later half.

A Mix of Genres, Something for Everyone

I'm extremely open-minded about what I read. I'll read pretty much anything except BL, but I'm a female-lead stan! I'll update this list from time to time. Just so you know, these are all purely subjective recommendations!
