In her final year of high school, Shu An moves to the city for the first time.

Her mother works as a nanny for the wealthy Jiang family, so Shu An boards at their home and enrolls in the school attended by the Jiang family's youngest son.

Shu An seems quiet and well-behaved, but often sneaks out late at night to work part-time and earn pocket money.

One time, while walking a neighbor's dogs, she runs into Jiang Wang, the young master of the Jiang family, returning home late at night.

Jiang Wang looks at Shu An being dragged along by five huskies, his expression inscrutable.

Unable to stop, Shu An grabs the hem of Jiang Wang's clothes in desperation. "Help me!"

Jiang Wang looks at her coldly. "Let go, or you're dead."

Shu An lets go and silently gets dragged away by the dogs.

Jiang Wang is famous at school. He's aloof, gets excellent grades, and is the very picture of an untouchable beauty.

Shu An doesn't dare provoke him, so she quietly gets on with her part-time jobs.

One night, returning home late, she sees Jiang Wang with his clothes in disarray and blood at the corner of his mouth. He seems to get pretty wild in private.

Shu An patches him up and plucks up the courage to make a deal: "From now on, we'll cover for each other. Neither of us can betray the other."

Jiang Wang curls his bloodstained lips into a smile and agrees.

So no one finds out about Shu An's part-time jobs. But she notices Jiang Wang acting more and more strangely.

He comes back late at night, changes clothes in her room, and even asks if she likes what she sees.

Every day at school, Shu An finds little things Jiang Wang has slipped into her bag: workbooks, little cakes, toys. When the weather turns cold, he even puts his jacket in there.

Later, some troublemakers corner Shu An on her way home late at night.

In desperation, she pulls Jiang Wang's jacket out of her bag and shouts, "Jiang Wang is my boyfriend! If you touch me, he'll beat you up!"

Their nonexistent romance spreads like wildfire.

That day, Jiang Wang takes part in a mountain bike downhill race and wins. He skips the celebration banquet and speeds through the woods with Shu An riding behind him.

"Jiang Wang, slow down!" Shu An cries in alarm.

"You avoid me whenever you see me, but when you're in danger, you remember me." He grins and takes her hand, making her wrap her arms around his lean waist.

The swift spring breeze carries his voice to her: "You have no conscience!"
