The Great Dancer of the Twentieth Century

After transmigrating to England in the twentieth century, she becomes Emma, a girl from a poor family. Emma's mother is a maid worked to the bone, while her father is a passionate worker who goes around making trouble for capitalists. His prospects couldn't be brighter. Even so, Emma is determined to pursue her dream of becoming a ballet dancer. First, she makes herself a pair of pointe shoes. Next, she needs to find a benefactor who can help her rise to the top. The young capitalist Brian has just taken over his father's business and is already plagued by protests from his workers. By chance, he hears that the ringleader has a daughter who is learning to dance. "That girl must have inherited her father's barrel-shaped body and potato for a brain. She actually thinks she can become a dancer." Brian scoffs and goes to watch Emma practice. But the girl's slender waist and graceful movements make him forget the world around him. "How could a swan be born in an ugly duckling's nest?" Brian says coldly, then turns to his servant. "I want all the information on her within three days." In 1931, the Royal Ballet was founded, and Emma became one of its first great ballerinas, captivating the royal family. Later, when color films swept the world, she wore her pointe shoes and left an everlasting image of grace on the screen. In the years that followed, watching Emma dance every Christmas became a cherished tradition for that generation. Her pointe shoes bore the mark of a century of glory.
