Here's how it happened.
Bian Ran transmigrated.
It was a very clichéd transmigration setup.
She stayed up for three nights working on her thesis and somehow didn't drop dead. Then, while heading downstairs to buy breakfast, she was crossing the street when an electric scooter came out of nowhere, ran a red light, and killed her.
When she opened her eyes again, she found herself in the body of a fifteen-year-old girl.
Bian Ran's first thought was: Oh no, I have to take the college entrance exams all over again.
Luckily, her new body's parents were famous musicians, and they were rich enough that she never had to worry about food or money.
Just as Bian Ran was getting ready to lie flat and enjoy life as a rich heiress,
a gang of robbers wearing yellow headscarves and shouting slogans, all apparently out of their minds, killed her parents and cleaned out the family fortune.
All they left behind was an empty house and the original owner's annoying little brother.
What a tragic story.
With no choice, she dragged her new little brother along with one hand, clutched the keepsake in the other, and raced a thousand miles to seek help from the original owner's father's sworn brother, just like the heroine in every melodramatic story.
Fortunately, things took a turn for the better. Her new dad's sworn brother was a powerful official, richer than anyone could imagine, and sentimental to boot. With a wave of his hand, he took the siblings into his home and raised them. Bian Ran had found herself another long-term meal ticket.
She thought she could lie flat again.
But on their first day in their new home, their benefactor uncle introduced Bian Ran to his biological son.
When she heard the boy's name, Bian Ran sensed something was off.
"This is my son, Cao Cao."
Cao... Cao?
The Cao Cao from Romance of the Three Kingdoms?
Bian Ran stared at the sharp-eyed kid, who looked like an arrogant, rebellious, chuunibyou rich brat, and slowly formed a question mark.
At first, Cao Cao didn't care much about the siblings his father had taken in.
That changed when the boy, without Cao Cao's knowledge, was held down by his rowdy friends and used as an archery target for their amusement.
It was the first time he had seen Bian Ran, usually lazy and indifferent to everything, explode with rage.
She unleashed a frightening amount of strength, grabbed a mop smeared with poop, and drove every one of his friends out.
Then Bian Ran pinned him to the ground and slapped him back and forth more than a dozen times. After the Cao family servants pulled her away, her expression was strangely calm. She stared at him and said just one word: "Scum."
That word finally snapped Cao Cao out of his rebellious chuunibyou phase.
Many years later, after Cao Cao became student council president of Han East Academy, he told his brothers about his past.
"There were two people who gave me a second chance at life. One was Principal Wang Yun. The other was..."
He quietly glanced at the red-haired girl sprawled on the living room sofa, watching TV.
Bian Ran noticed Cao Cao looking at her and lifted her head. He immediately turned away, his face bright red.
Bian Ran: ...?
Are you okay?
* Pairing: Cao Cao
* Lots and lots of original plot and original settings. The president shows up a little late.
* The female lead is based on Bian Furen, with many original additions. She has little empathy, loves money and slacking off, is fiercely protective, and is the story's sarcastic commentator. She has some morals, but not many.
