An alarm call rings out in the dead of night. The victim's death is bizarre.
While tracking down the killer, Lu Zhimiao accidentally catches a glimpse of the wonderful, hidden side of this world.
After that, it is as if Lu Zhimiao's life has opened Pandora's box, and every day brings a new "surprise."
She suddenly discovers that every member of her neighbors' family can use magic, and that the punk teenager she runs into on the street and the friend she occasionally shares meals with can both shoot dazzling beams of light from their hands.
Superpowered fighters, demons, the Twelve Time-Space Domains.
One event after another, each overturning everything she has believed in over the past twenty-five years, unfolds before her eyes as the case progresses.
When Lu Zhimiao reports the investigation's progress to the director:
Lu Zhimiao: I saw them! They can use magic!! They can fly, too, and shoot dazzling beams of light from their hands!!
Director: ...Have you only started having these symptoms today, or...
Lu Zhimiao: No, they really can use magic! Director, you have to believe me!
And so Lu Zhimiao is ordered to take time off and get psychological counseling because of excessive stress.
Lu Zhimiao blows a smoke ring, then angrily throws her cigarette butt on the ground and grinds it underfoot.
She turns to look at the person standing beside her.
"I'm a police officer. Investigating the truth is my duty, my faith. You can use your powers to erase my memories and take that bastard away."
"But even if you erase my memories, I'll investigate all over again once I've forgotten everything! I won't give up. The victims' families have a right to know who killed their loved ones. They shouldn't be kept in the dark like this. They have a right to know the whole truth."
