[Naturally Wicked Demon Princess x Aloof Widower Sword Master]
[Ying Shixue x Chi Yunjian]
Ying Shixue suddenly discovers that every night, she transmigrates into a life-sized figurine of her sworn enemy, the Sword Master’s deceased Daoist partner.
A demon princess, Ying Shixue is cold and indifferent by nature, a wicked demon who understands none of the seven emotions and six desires. Bored of her peaceful, uneventful life, she deliberately picked up a demon sword and challenged everyone in the cultivation world, defeating countless opponents.
As she continually sought out thrills, she gradually found even that dull and tiresome. She hoped to finally meet her match and fall at the hands of someone stronger than herself.
That was when she met the Sword Master of the Fantian Sect, Chi Yunjian, known as the greatest swordsman under heaven.
The man wore white robes as bright as snow, with the bearing of a crane and the poise of a pine. His cool eyes and brows held an air of pure, distant detachment. Every beautiful word in the world seemed to pale when used to describe him.
Ying Shixue lasted fewer than five moves against Chi Yunjian before he held his sword to her throat. Just as she thought he would show no mercy, he let her go and said coldly, “Lay down your butcher’s knife and turn back to the shore.”
Ying Shixue was thrilled. She felt that Chi Yunjian had been born for her, and had come into the world for her sake.
She tilted her head and smiled at him. “Can I be your little puppy? Woof, woof, woof.”
There was nothing in the world Ying Shixue couldn’t obtain. Once she set her sights on something, she would do whatever it took to get it. Yet Chi Yunjian gave her nothing but a cold shoulder.
As it turned out, Chi Yunjian already had a Daoist partner. After that partner died, he had mourned her for a thousand years. Throughout the cultivation world, people praised Chi Yunjian’s deep devotion to his beloved.
Ying Shixue was so jealous her teeth itched. Then she smiled. If she couldn’t have him, she might as well destroy him.
As long as she was alive, she would challenge him every day without fail. She didn’t care if she ended up covered in wounds, or if he never once gave her a proper look.
Over time, they became sworn enemies known to everyone in the cultivation world.
But one day, after Chi Yunjian had beaten her up during the day, Ying Shixue suddenly found herself that night in the form of the life-sized figurine of his Daoist partner, placed beside his pillow.
Before she could react, a strong, sinewy arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her and the bedding into the man’s embrace.
She watched in disbelief as Chi Yunjian, so cold and taciturn by day, acted like a fragile little puppy now, nuzzling her neck again and again as he poured out his feelings:
“Today I made fish-fragrant eggplant and mapo tofu, your favorites.”
“I watered the whole spirit garden. A few flowers have bloomed, the evening glories you like.”
“I miss you so much. I miss you like crazy...”
Ying Shixue finally understood. Chi Yunjian had refused to let her be his dog because he was already a dog himself, another woman’s dog.
From that night on, Ying Shixue found herself in the figurine of Chi Yunjian’s Daoist partner every night.
Chi Yunjian would report every detail of his day to her, tell her bedtime stories, kiss her forehead and each cheek good night, then hold her as he slept, their skin pressed together with not a gap between them.
Sometimes she arrived too early, before Chi Yunjian had returned. She would jump off the bed and stiffly move her limbs as she explored the house.
Like a plant living in the dark, she peered at the traces of the life Chi Yunjian had shared with another woman.
She admitted that she was greedy, resentful, and obsessive. The moment she tasted a little sweetness, she wanted more.
Yet she also discovered in despair that she could never replace Chi Yunjian’s Daoist partner. That woman had loved life and been kind. She loved growing flowers and raising little animals. She was the very picture of goodness.
But Ying Shixue could never be that good. She was goodness’s opposite, the very picture of evil.
Then one day, consumed by jealousy and in the throes of a heart demon, Ying Shixue drew her sword and charged into the valley where Chi Yunjian lived.
But to her surprise, she discovered that she and the figurine of Chi Yunjian’s Daoist partner had exactly the same face.
Later, when Ying Shixue regained her memories, she learned the truth:
In her previous life, she had been Chi Yunjian’s Daoist partner.
