The Frail Cannon Fodder Gets Caught Up in Love Triangles Every Day

[Check out my upcoming historical BL, The Promised Background Character Somehow Became the Protagonist. It is this book's long-form alternate-universe storyline.]

Blurb

Ning Qingran died.

The good news: He transmigrated into a book.

The bad news: He is a doomed cannon fodder character who dies early, and he is forced to complete missions.

Better news: Once he completes the mission storyline, the System promises him a healthy body.

Ning Qingran was sickly from childhood. Even in the modern world, illness put limits on everything he could do. He never expected to end up with an even worse body after transmigrating into a book.

He has entered a melodramatic novel in which several tops vie for one bottom before the story ends in a happy reunion.

His role in the story is the fiance of the second male lead.

The two were betrothed in childhood.

Except that Ning Qingran will kill his Dao companion so he can run away with his true love.

Betrayed, his Dao companion will hunt him down relentlessly.

Ning Qingran will die at his wedding to his lover. The unfaithful meet a gruesome end.

Ning Qingran carefully follows his assigned mission, waiting for the day he dies. But instead of his death, he sees a bloodied hand reaching toward him.

His Dao companion, usually as bright and spotless as the moon, now has his eyes swallowed by black pupils. He looks like an evil spirit that devours people. His white robes are stained red, like an exquisitely vivid wedding gown.

He leans close to Ning Qingran, his words a lover's whisper. "My husband, it was so hard to find you."

While getting close to Fu Yue, Ning Qingran once deceived a young merfolk's affections. The merfolk was sweet-tongued and beautiful, blushing shyly whenever he said something romantic.

Only later did Ning Qingran realize that this was no innocent young merfolk at all. He was a perverted merfolk with a heart full of black sesame filling.

One day...

Yan Qing: "You don't like me at all. When we're in bed, you always cry like you don't want to be there, and you won't even look at me."

Ning Qingran: "..."

Yan Qing: "You don't even like sleeping with me."

Ning Qingran: "..."

Can someone please take this terrible lover of a dead fish away?

As the plot grows more and more ridiculous, Ning Qingran is numb with disbelief.

All he wanted was to get himself killed.

Sickly, beautiful, unlucky bottom / aloof, taciturn, unhinged sword cultivator top / sweet on the outside, dark within, crybaby merfolk top

P.S. This is a nonsensical, silly, sweet-and-spicy novel~~~ It's unusually melodramatic and absurd, and the author's writing and logic have fallen to pieces beyond all hope. The style is rambly, and the early chapters are especially absurd. Orz

The bottom is weak, and the tops are very much love-struck stalkers, genuinely obsessed with him. The bottom also has a problematic attitude toward love, otherwise this wouldn't be a 1v2 story~

Writing a love story that's both normal and abnormal.

An everyday silly melodrama, amateur writing, no logic, not 1v1.

The Promised Background Character Somehow Became the Protagonist

Ning Qingran transmigrates into a book, into a melodramatic novel he once skimmed a few pages of.

The good news: He transmigrated in his own body, and he has no role in this novel.

The bad news: He's about to die.

To stay alive, Ning Qingran has no choice but to deceive a young merfolk's affections.

The merfolk is named Yan Qing. He has a tragic past and a simple nature.

He is always handing Ning Qingran all sorts of rare treasures, smiling sweetly and gently.

Ning Qingran was taken in by that obedient face. Later, he discovers that the merfolk is clearly black sesame filling through and through.

He's obsessive, gloomy, and possessive. Whenever he sees Ning Qingran spending time with someone else, he throws a fit.

Ning Qingran can't take it anymore and tries to sneak away, hoping to end their relationship.

But wherever he runs, Yan Qing finds him with ease.

The obedient look Yan Qing used to wear is gone. He runs a hand over Ning Qingran's leg, smiling as he says something that chills Ning Qingran to the bone.

"Run again, and you'll lose the use of your legs."

Ning Qingran doesn't dare run again, and Yan Qing no longer trusts him.

The chain around his ankle has taken away Ning Qingran's freedom.

One day, Ning Qingran learns that people from Yun Cang Mountain will be coming to these waters. One of the male leads from the book will be among them.

This is his last chance to escape.

He recalls the description in the book.

Fu Yue:

Bright and noble, pure as jade, a man of impeccable character...

He hadn't gotten around to reading the rest before he transmigrated into this world.

Ning Qingran lowers his eyes. Taking advantage of the commotion in the crowd, he throws himself toward Fu Yue and whispers a plea for help.

"Cultivator Fu, please, save me."

Fu Yue looks at the person who has thrown himself into his arms, as delicate and fragile as a flower that would break at the slightest touch.

He hears himself say, "All right."

Fu Yue:

Bright and noble, pure as jade, a man of impeccable character... All of the above is fiction. This man is extremely jealous.

Beautiful, unlucky bottom / aloof, taciturn, unhinged sword cultivator top / sweet on the outside, dark within, crybaby merfolk top

Theme: While pursuing your true self, you may also find many unexpected delights.
